Massive layoffs in Pakistan army

They should start from the top

^oh really?
great idea! so that the army, and the whole country for that matter, is left to less experienced junior officers!? :smack:

It would be good to have new blood in the army who have to work to get to senior positions, instead of being handed cushy posts by their relatives. A professional army is much less likely to intefere in democracy.

Which relative put Musharraf at the top?

Lol…

A professional army is one that consists of paid volunteers (as opposed to a conscript army that consists of draftees). Last time i looked, the Pakistani Army consists of paid volunteers and hence is a professional army (and always has been).

:k:

Corps commander Peshawar or Pekhawar as they say.

A professional army does not overthrow it's civillian leadership or take over Wapda and other public instiutions. What does running WAPDA have to do with being in the army?

intrest of national safety... :p

Doesn’t look like much of a downsizing now.

Downsizing or juggling

Obaidullah

As usual, retired Col SGB Shah Bokhari (The News, May 2, 2004) was quick to jump to the plight of “50,000” families because of down sizing of army. However, he probably has not read the whole plan. The mighty army officers are going to sack only their batmen and then rehire them as civilian bearers. And by the way from sepoy to the general, none of the army men are remain unemployed.

They have quotas and preferences in each and every government, semi-government or autonomous public bodies. The army rather has more opportunities than any government as a whole. Consider the cement, arms, fertilizer and other factories, banks, leasing companies, even bakeries. Who says those soldiers retired at the prime of their age would not find a job. Golden handshake will be another pocket money from this poor nation. Last year, including the salaries in the civilian budget fooled the world donor agencies. I hope Shah Sahib also considers those 140 million other people who are jobless rather than worry about the army welfare.

140 million unemployed, let me get this straight…Your saying 89%of Pakistan’s population is unemployed.. Yeah right imad… Get your facts right.

For example the security industry in Pakistan constitiues for empolyment of 100,000 people alone.

Most sources place the population of Pakistan at 153 million currently. In light of this information, would you care to come up with a real argument instead of some fabrication.
