Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

I hope this was just an accident…

Three large explosions have taken place at an oil depot near Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire.

Police say there have been casualties. and officers are at the scene.

The first blast happened at 0603 GMT, at the Buncefield oil depot, close to the junction 8 of the M1 motorway 10 miles from Luton Airport.

The M1 has been closed both ways. Residents up to 30 miles from the scene reported hearing a “loud boom” and seeing flames “up to 60ft”.

One eye witness told BBC News: “There are lots of houses damaged.”

Witnesses said another two explosions followed the first at 0626 GMT and 0627 GMT.

The M1 near the scene has been closed in both directions.

Eye witness Sam Matton, who lives half-a-mile from the depot told BBC News: "The sky is sort of orange. The flames have got to be 60ft up in the air.

"I was in bed, I was actually having a bad dream and I thought the world had ended.

"The loft hatch in my house has actually fallen out, my neighbour’s window has actually broken from the impact.

"There was a first major explosion and about three explosions after that.

Dave Franklin told BBC News: "We woke up at 0555 GMT. There was a massive loud bang which broke windows above us and to the right. The whole sky just turned orange and black.

“Several other neighbours said they did see a plane go into the depot.”

Duncan Milligan, of Hemel Hempstead, said he was awoken by the explosion as his house “shook”.

"There was a loud boom and the house shook violently.

"I am about three miles from where the explosion took place but I can see flames high in the sky and smoke billowing everywhere.

“There is clearly a building on fire near the motorway and police and emergency services are everywhere.”

Michael Vatty said: "There have been four subsequent very loud explosions, but the main one was just after six.

“The impression was that it was a clap of thunder, but as soon as we got up we saw the flames. We had the garage door blown in, the front door was also blown in.”

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

:( That's horrible...i hope everyone's alrite, and that it was just an accident.

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

An oil depot exploded and police are saying it was an accident. The blast was heard 40 miles away. No one has died even though there are 6 people seriously injured .

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

Guess little Britain are going to invade and occupy another muslim country because of oil shortages but obviously they will accuse that country of having ghost WMDs first

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

what a loaf of rubbish. They have said it's an accident nor blamed anyone for it. So shut this constant crap up and join the real world. BTW it was a distribution centre not production.

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

I was being sarcastic :bummer:

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

umm... I apoligise then. With the amount of anti west and pro Bin-Laden and blid support of terrorist groups on this baord it's hard to tell the difference.

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

Emm, I dont think any one supports bin laden on this forum. However we have mutitudes of bush supporters here. Now that is sad and concerning.

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

I think they r saying the no. of injured is now 42, and many houses have been damaged too. It definately seems like an accident. And apparently, any clues that cud shed some light have been destroyed. I can't believe how huge this was, so many ppl have been evacuated.

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

Why are you so conscious? Any complexes?

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

If youve got something to say to those who do think bin laden was behind 911 spit it out. I fail to see how not supporting terrorism is being bush’s chamcha.

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

^ who inflicts the terrorism is it the governments who with their billions launch illegal wars killing hundreds of thousands or is it one or two individuals setting off bombs in city centres which one is worse ?

Re: Massive Explosion North Of London; Casualties reported

I don’t think anyone here is supporting Bin Laden. I think that Apache is just saying he is against Bush. But certainly, being anti-terrorism doesn’t mean u agree with wot Bush is doing. Well, this is all off topic though.
