“London’s Daily Mail reported in April that the Mab Lane Primary school in Liverpool was boldly dealing with the problem of unruly students by scheduling 20-minute massage sessions twice a week in a room with aromatic oils and soothing music. Children of all ages at the school are taught “simple shoulder and back massages on each other,” the newspaper reported. [Daily Mail, 4-14-08]”
Am I the only one that sees something drastically wrong with this…?
Whatever leads this to happen, there has to be some proper treatment, some doctors / psychiatric has to be there to take care those kids! ... giving massage will not cure the root cause of any problem and it can distract the personality of those kids into some wrong direction! ...
On the other hand, doing a massage at skull with finger tips using some desi oil gives a lot of relief, we all should do it once in a week at least! It opens blocked blood capillaries!
Actually, massage is a long proven and great tool for calming sensory, Autistic and ADD/ADHD kids. They might not be far from wrong. When you look at massage as a therapeutic tool rather than a sensual experience, it may open your eyes.
My son has “sensory processing disorder” and is on the autism spectrum. He is highly disorganized and unable to focus on task. Yet after a few minutes of massage, “brushing” or wearing a weighted vest, he’s like a different guy. It sounds like the teachers in this Liverpool school are right on the ball.
Isnt THAT better than medicating him with ritalin at the tender age of 7???
Really, its ok as long as the whole thing is supervised by teachers and therapists who are trained in this area.
There has been so much in the news lately also about aroma-therapy and music therapy…I know for SURE that music focuses my son like nothing else can.
Lets try to be a bit more open minded when it comes to kids who are having trouble in school…I mean it isnt ALWAYS the fault of the parent!!! Here is one of the very very many links on the topic:
and ps, I’m a stay-at home mom, NOT into making a fortune, junk food OR chaotic environment. Yet my son requires this type of therapy to be able to settle down enough to LEARN.
