Re: Masjids that preach terrorism
Uh yeah, Umar was the leader of state at the time. He wasn't an imam in some random mosque that had to answer to a government and its laws.

And don't get me started on Zia - his Shariat was the most absurd Shariat ever. It was the poor getting the punishments and rich people were still escaping with the same crimes they have always escaped with. A half-arsed Shariat is not acceptable.

exactly ...so is our leader fulfilling that role now? if not then the people have a right to protest why such things are tolerated in a "islamic republic"

I am not a big fan of zia myself nor am I a die-hard opponent of musharraf ,actually i think the opposition against him esp. the political parties are way more corrupt than him]..and as i said earlier Zia's laws were not perfect either but was positive in a way that atleast some sort of steps were been taken to re-introduce a relic of our past i.e islam] in our govt.
a half-arsed approach is not acceptable but similarly a "all-or-none" approach not acceptable either.
there is no infalliable amongst us to introduce a perfect system but lets not say that shariah is not practical ...islam was not revealed to be confined to mosques and madrassahs.

Absolutely you can protest. Absolutely you can question. But you can't break Islamic laws for the hopes of establishing Islamic law. Then there is no bharosa that you will actually institute real Islamic law, since you didn't respect it to begin with.

I agree with you on many points, but the present system is far from an all-or-none approach. Right now, there are some Pakistani laws that are in accordance with Islam, some that are not (ex. the old Hudood Ordinance - I still don't know whether its been fully mended), and some that are neither Islamic or unIslamic but are just simply unwise (like an absence of good education laws).
Re: Masjids that preach terrorism
wait a second i have a question does getting media involved to launch a protest against any wrong doing gets any action? i remember a while back there was a programme by the name of gumnam on geo i think. while they would show all sort of criminal activities going on in public, i have never heard nor seen what the official response was. Programmes like amin aur aap have been aired and then banned, hardly any action is taken. Its all good to report unislamic preaching but lets not forget we have got thugs sitting on top of us, frustration is the end result in many cases. Its not like current affair or sixty minutes here where they uncover some crime and the official repsonse is there, nobody gives a crap in Pakistan most of the times.
