Masalas in a bottle.

Salam everyone,

So I came across someone mention using premade indian sauces (Pataks, and superstore brands) to cook food in for those days when you just don’t feel like spending too much time in the kitchen. Do any of you use those ? How do you use them and any tips and tricks to make them turn out even more awesome ?

Re: Masalas in a bottle.

I have made my own bottle masalas. They are very easy to use, just the masala then meat or Sabzi and let it cook in the masala.

Lusi pls share how you make tgem, store them ? And which masalas are best to make I mean which dishes ?

Re: Masalas in a bottle.

I’ve tried many of the patak’s one but don’t like their flavours.. they taste kind of sweet even if you buy the hotter ones. I have tried their vindaloo, butter chicken and biryani masala, but it’s not worth ruiing a kilo of meat for.

i would rather use shan packet masala if i had to.

Re: Masalas in a bottle.

If u live is us.. U can find saffron road masala pouches in whole foods .. I ve tried Rogan josh and butte chicken(may be I m forgetting the name)
N they were ok to eat .. I mean I liked them but not much .. Come u. Very handy when u don’t wanna cook .. Just put chicke, masala n let it cook …

Re: Masalas in a bottle.

I just make generic masalas and use them with pretty much everything. I do not add any salt or red pepper. That is added when cooking. I store them in sterilized glass containers in the fridge. I do not add any water when making masalas.

onions, tomatoes, dry spices, ginger garlic paste.

Re: Masalas in a bottle.

^ do you blend onions and tomatoes uncooked with spices and ginger/garlic?

or do you cook onions and tomatoes, then blend and add?

Re: Masalas in a bottle.

My mum blends garlic , ginger and red hot chilli peppers together and store in a glass jar.

Re: Masalas in a bottle.

I have done it 2 ways…

  1. Cook onions, add tomato and blend, then cook some more

  2. Blend onions and tomatoes then cook.

You get different flavor each way
