Re: Mary Magdalene

Dear Fellow Guppies,

Regarding Dan Brown and his book .... The Da vinci Code..

Enjoyed the book...

An Indiana Jones adventure if ever there was one.

Da Vinci Code fictionalizes based on the book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" authored by Michael Baigent, Henry Lincoln & Richard Leigh... If you have read this book you will notice character names in Da Vinci Code originate from this book...the storyline originates from this book.

Not that I concider this book factual....is interesting that majority of material is borrowed by Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code.

Wonder if the name Dan Brown is pet name for one or all authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail.

Re: Mary Magdalene

dan brown and his stupid made up stories, the guy needs a severe beating to bring some sense back into his brain which is full of bhoosa. all of the talk about magdelene and holy grail etc = bull. it is completely untrue as most know. anu bhai has clarified correctly, no mention of such being in quran-e-paak.

Re: Mary Magdalene

1st u give that example then say excuse it? in dat case, u could’veor should’ve deleted that example and looked to have provided another, no?? 2condly, plz don’t even think about uttering such shab against the most purest of creations hazoor :saw:] phanx in advance.

Re: Mary Magdalene

Mary Magdalene as illustrated to me as a child...

(I was taught that she was a sinner..)

(I was taught that she once washed Jesus feet)

(I was taught she prepared Jesus body for burial..and was among those who discoved the grave open...)

And was of the first to see Jesus arisen.

Re: Mary Magdalene

AAG all false.

Re: Mary Magdalene

I think if Jesus was married...it would have been recorded.

But I don't think the idea of Jesus being married in anyway detracts from his godliness or goodness.

If Jesus were married...wouldn't make an iota of difference to me.

Re: Mary Magdalene

And you are saying ?

Re: Mary Magdalene

i'm saying wat u said in ur reply number #26 was all false. self explanatory really.

Re: Mary Magdalene

Not to say this is correct...

But might be logical that later leaders of the church being men...

Decided to impune the reputation of the Magadalene...

Because they could not accept woman having godliness.

Re: Mary Magdalene

You guys know that ....

The Legend of the Holy Grail...

Was an old story..

Sung from France Mistrels from olden times...

Where did the story come from?

Re: Mary Magdalene

I think it came from rumors...

that..

Joseph of Arithimea owned a grave and offered a place for Jesus to be buried .

Re: Mary Magdalene

Interesting that you revived the thread. I just heard another version of the story that some Christians actually believe. I think its the feminist twist of it, since I was talking to a Women's Studies major. When I asked where this story came from she muttered something about the other non-popular versions of the Bible that are out.

Well anyhoo - the story goes that at the time of Prophet Jesus, women were left out to some extent from the Judaic religious customs of the time. So there were some women who were affluent (money left over from a dead husband, businesswomen, etc) at the time. Mary Magdelane and some other women (Mary Magdelane being the main one) were of this group and they all supported the Prophet's cause. This is amazingly parallel to Islam and Prophet Muhammed, because the Rasul's first followers (many of them) were women who were being mistreated at the time.

Later when Christianity became a legitimized religion, and the Church was run by men, to legitimize their superior rank as men and to downplay the role that these affluent women had, 300 or 400 years later when the Bible was being revised, some changes were made, and Mary Magdelane became a prostitute.

The idea was, I suppose, to not let women think that they can be on equal footing. If its in religious text that Mary was an affluent woman of society and she played such a big role - then other woman could combat their treatment in society.

Mary, mother of Jesus, is not degraded to the level of a prostitute of course. But interestingly, most of the "image" you see of her is a very motherly image. So the Church can always use the holy virgin to promote the idea of a traditional female - the one who keeps her virginity, marries as a virgin and then devotes her entire life to being a mother. NOthing wrong with that, but that image sure leaves out the possibility of a woman developing herself as an individual. Mary Magdelane, if she was an affluent businesswoman, had the image of the woman as an individual.

So there you have it. One version of the story. Which again, I can't claim it to be a legit theory, since I have no clue where it really comes from.

Re: Mary Magdalene

^ sounds like a feminist theory..

why is everyone blaming dan brown? he wrote fiction n its not like his theory

hmmm i just find it really weird that historians/church would create a woman that never really existed..

[/QUOTE]

Sort of like Islam following the teachings of a man that never existed.

Not funny is it?

Re: Mary Magdalene

are u saying the Prophet didn't exist? haiN?

Re: Mary Magdalene

No shes being sarcastic. It's retaliation to those who are saying that Mary Magdalene supposedly didn't exist. We get so up in arms if someone "insults" us, but it's okay for us to bash other people's religions and beliefs and what they've been taught? And then when they try to defend themselves, they're in the wrong. There's a serious double standard here, and it's wrong. Not saying that anyone did that here, but I've seen it here for about a year now and it's really frustrating me now.

Re: Mary Magdalene

^ that's not what I was doing. I was questioning her comment, since I thought Christians believed that Mohammed was a real man, just not a prophet.

Or so the neighborhood Jehova's witness people tell me.

Re: Mary Magdalene

do explain this 1???
