Martina Hingis said Thursday she has been accused of testing positive for cocaine at Wimbledon, and then annouced her retirement from professional tennis.
She denied using cocaine.
Hingis said the positive test, which could lead to a doping suspension of up to two years, led to her retirement because she doesn’t want to spend years fighting the case.
One of my favourite players in tennis. I remember how she lead the rankings at 16. Her career did suffer from injuries, but always great to watch. Her playing style wasn’t about power rather finesse. She always had great shot selections and low error rate. Its sad to see her career ending in this manner.
