Yes or no?
Re: Marrying within the family - does it really provide more security?
Not in my family haa. My parents thought the same so, specific to me no. but I guess the safest thing about it is that you probably know the worst parts of each family i.e. the guy/girl, the inlaws. You already know their habits.
Re: Marrying within the family - does it really provide more security?
I've always assumed most family members would tend to take the side of the person closest to them rather than being objective and also try and hold the marriage together at any cost no matter what has gone on (an obvious plus in desi culture) but often at the expense of one partner, perhaps leading to them being taken advantage of, emotionally blackmailed etc.. Other ppl say a relative would never treat you badly let alone divorce you for fear of breaking the family apart.. Just wondering what the general feelings are regarding this..

I think it makes things more complicated for some people. Family politics can create a huge mess in such situations and even khala, phupho, chachi, tayi have the evil MIL streak in them too !

Um...no. It doesn't.
Re: Marrying within the family - does it really provide more security?
TBH, the only thing it does do (from experience considering my ENTIRE family in Pak is married to cousins) is make so that if you're unhappy in a marriage you think 5 billion times before asking for a divorce. It complicates things. completely incompatible people are married to each other and you can't say no / have to suck it up and pretend to be happy for the rest of your life because things are such a mess since everyone is related to everyone else.

i do NOT see anything wrong with it but i'm NOT gonna do it :)
Re: Marrying within the family - does it really provide more security?
Familiarity is comforting but as the saying goes, it CAN also breed comtempt. For marriages within the family, it can be harder to maintain neutrality when conflicts arise. Since everyone's related....you have this domino effect of bruised egos...it can get really sticky.

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt.
