Men are evolutionary polygamists. Throughout history most men of power have had multiple partners. This ensures maximum success rate for the human race to multiply ie bachay hee bachay.

Women too have a choice to be polygamist but then it would usually be difficult to determine who’s children she’s bearing. That ends up with confusion over inheritance etc.
