It is not a committal relationship , it is preparation for that commitment and if a partner has lot of baggage and is overloading other party with that baggage ,then it is wise to look for someone with less or no baggage.
I am assuming that OP has tried to help the other person already ,but seems that OP is now looking for a way out, but he/she is reluctant and feels guilty.
