Hi
i just needed a bit of help - i was wondering if one gets married in pakistan and calls spouse over, then they both shud get their marriage registered in britian too becoz the islamic nikkah nama does not validate the marriage,if incase, in the future theres prob with something then both parties have less right over it?
could someone plzzz help resolve this confusion?
thanks
Re: Marriage Registry in UK
Not sure whether this is the same for Pakistan, but I recently had some experience with my BIL getting married in India.
You can get a "court marriage" done, whereby you take the islamic documents and any other info to the local govt office in your o/seas city and they give you an english marriage certificate.
Then no registry is required here

Re: Marriage Registry in UK
coz u married in pakistan and are calling over ur husband....ur nikkah naam is vaild proof of marriage so u dont need to do a marriage registry*...... *
u only need to do marriage registry if ur getting married in the uk
Re: Marriage Registry in UK
yep i agree with both of the above replies , there is not really any need to get ur mariage registered here the nikah nama translated into english and attested is enuff .
however i do agree dt in the instance of divorce it is much easier when ur marriage is registered since ur marriage is nt registered here u cannot legally file for a divorce u go thru the sharia council.
Re: Marriage Registry in UK
well let me tell u if u dont register ur marriage in uk u dont get the rights for husband/wife...they will treat u as gf/bf..and it will be really really hard to get divorce jst in case(KHudanakhasta) and also our islamic nikkah nama is not enough in uk...dnt jst rely on it
Re: Marriage Registry in UK
^ sorry bt i disagree i work in the immigration and ur nikah nama transalated in english and attested is valid in the UK .
my husband has just come recently and we r now going to apply for a further stay for him and i asked the lady whether we needed to register our marriage and she said it is not needed if i have my nikah nama translated in english and attested.
however i do agree that in the case of dicorce since ur marriage is nt registered u cant get the english way of divorce u have to go thru shariah council if ur husband doesnt give u divorce or if he is causin problems . otherwise it is a simple procedure of getting ur nikah nama from the moulvi getting husband to sign it.
also u do get rights of a husband and wife if ur marriage is not registered why wud they see u as bf/gf when they have given ur spouse a husband settlement visa

Re: Marriage Registry in UK
right ok
thanks for all your help in sorting the confusion out
yea, we have got the nika nama in english, and he's just got indefinite stay from home office after 2 years .
this only came to mind coz i dunno some newly-wed desi ppl i know, went and got their marriage registered at the uk office - so now i assume they probably doin dat just to show off or mark as a special rememberence thing and its not compulsory.
