Marriage in 1.5 yrs but clothes getting made now?

Hi Everyone,

I am quite new to this forum and have checked out pretty much 80% of the posts on the wedding sections! Amazing - I just love how people help out each other so much.. Love it.

Was wondering if I can get some advice from you guys too.

I live in Australia and am getting married in 1.5 yrs meaning either Dec 2011 or Jan 2012. For all those living abroad - you’d know how difficult it gets to go to Pakistan at particular times due to work and uni commitments etc.

So my MIL will be going to Pakistan towards the end of this year to do my wedding shopping for the Bari etc, I am getting my own Mendhi & Barat day outfit made - however she’s getting the Walima one, i left it to her =)

I am just worried about two things

  1. In terms of the Bari clothes - if she get’s the newer style clothes like long kameezes with trousers and ribbons etc I assume it’ll be out of fashion by the time it’s my wedding. (I have the Pakistani dish at home hence know what’s up to date at the moment) Bu can’t really predict what will be in during my wedding time. Any tips in the style of clothes she should get made - she’s particularly asked me what I want etc.

  2. She will be doing her shopping from Lahore, any good bridal outfit places I can recommend - since she’s asked me.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

P.S i’ll be doing my shopping from Karachi when I go sometime next yr

The bari clothes...I recommend you get some suits made with normal length shirt, a couple long and the rest unstitched. This will help later on when the styles change. Make sure you know a good tailor in your area that can help you out later on.

Thats what I did.

Thanks for your help =)

That's definitely what I was thinking to keep normal length shirt - I considered keeping some unstiched - except the problem is theres no way as near as good tailors here in Aus compared to Pakistan..

Ahh decisions decisions - thanks for your help though.

In KHI i know good tailors, for Lahore Im sure MIL will know a few.. well let's hope!

or the other option is - get Sari's since most of the styles won't be out of date in 1.5yrs lol.

Re: Marriage in 1.5 yrs but clothes getting made now?

longer shirts can be shortened if short shirts come back in fashion..

Re: Marriage in 1.5 yrs but clothes getting made now?

good point definitely.. but i was more talking about 'kaliyon' wale kameezes and the whole A line shirts that are in now? should i get those sort made or just stick to normal straight kameezes with kaam etc.

Also, going by what I see on tv here, on style 360 etc are those really long shirts with no dupattas but very flary sleeves common in Pakistan within general public? (i mean i dont wanna get tht made for my bari clothes but was just wondering) how much reality these fashion channels really show to people living abroad lol

Re: Marriage in 1.5 yrs but clothes getting made now?

I'm in Aus too so I definetly know how you feel- tailors here are totally useless compared to the ones in Pak. What I would suggest is that keep your shirts at a normal length that way you won't look outdated when/if the fashion changes. However, if you look at, for example, anarkhali dresses they have been in for ages and still are so I am sure the fashion will not change dramatically by the time you get married...plus the fashion always takes awhile to get here since we are so far from Pak. So what you could do is get a few long length shirts made and keep the rest at a normal length. As someone suggested, if the shirts are long you can always get them shortened..just make sure you get shirts which don't have kaam on the bottom. Have the kaam on the gaala and the top of the kameez, that way it won't be such a hassle to take it up should the need arise.

hey thanks! so glad you can totally understand what it's like here sigh..

yeah your right about Anarkali's they're not out of fashion yet.. I think i'll tell my MIL to make few latest style and the rest normal length kameezes and i love your idea about habing the work on on the gaala and towards the top ! Thanks for that

No worries glad I could help :-)
