There are many books around, same goes for online resources.
depending on what your need is I can recommend some.
actually i m preparing for interview so wanna revise basics of marketing n i don't have books with me :(

I think we also need to scrap works by shakespear, freud, and definitely that newton character :)
No one was ever really thaught that Newton Book (the Mathematica if I remember correctly). And they teach Einstiens solutions these days :).
Gray i do have to wonder... is it the 35th editition now? Same pictures as in 1800!
We did not use Philip Kotler unless he deals with specific marketing areas. Only done general marketing.

Personally, I hated Kotler. Went on 'n on 'n on… 
I wouldn’t compare him to Gray or …newton for heaven’s sakes…but…I see ur point.
hey kotler went on and on just like Porter and Deming etc did with their own respective fields. I happen to think that Kotler was pretty good but then I have had exposure to the master himself.

Not only have I read two of his Marketing texts cover-to-cover, but also had the opportunity to sit in on two of his lectures.
Kotler and Stanton are my fav authors when it comes to Marketing,
Stanton being somewhat more basic in his treatment.
