Yeah.. Marketing analytics involves the following:
Putting general information into Quantifiable figures , for example when a marketing campaign launches, how do you know how many people are seeing your advert? how do you know where the maximum impact is ? is it online adverts in certain places ? or is it offline marketing that is bringing in maximum sales ?
Similarly it helps to turn the vague data into Quantities that help drive the sales , for example , the breakdown of clientele .. for example a cosmetic company will benefit immensely when they find out that certain product is being used by a certain age group, sales hike at a certain time of the year , most sales are originated through high end retailers etc etc ..
analysis also measures traffic driven to your direct marketing tools like your website, specially if you an online sales entity .. so it measures and analyses what products are of major interest to what market , how many clicks did a product get v/s sales etc .. This analysis particularly helps gauge your marketing campaign credibility and returns , when you are using alternative methods like email marketing, mobile marketing, social media etc etc

additionally there is a lot of proactive work in marketing analytics e.g. Profiling, Modeling, Segmentation, Attribution.
It is a huge and growing field, I would recommend you check out companies like Merkle, Nielsen, Hitwise, NM Incite, Acxiom, Epsilon, Exact Target, etc etc
Right now with proper profiling and modeling which identifies target audience so its not just how many people see your ad or promotion, but target people with right offer, at the right time, with the right message, in the right medium.
its no longer a passive post creative and execution measurement and analysis, it is pre campaign and execution guiding strategy, across all channels.
