marinating frozen fish fillets to refreeze?

My husband loves masala fish but not the frozen masala fish he likes the box masalas. I was wondering if anyone has bought frozen fish fillets,applied masala to it and frozen them? Do the fillets take on the masala taste well or would I need to defrost the fish rather than applying the masala onto frozen fish? Is it safe to refreeze frozen fish? I’m looking at ways of cooking food fast with a little one around.

I don't know if this will answer your question or not. But I always buy fresh fish fillets but end up putting them in the freezer. Max. I have had fish in the freezer is for 3 weeks & then thawed it, apply the marinade & then freeze it again. It always fries/cooks fine.

I had marinated fish in the freezer for more 4 months. My mom visited me, fried it & it still tasted good.

Once you thaw the fish apply the masala right away & refreeze it without wasting anytime. If you leave thawed fish out or in the fridge for long it starts smelling funny.

you can marinate the fish and freeze it. I am not sure if the marinate will do its magic on the frozen fish as it will do on thawed or fresh fish. I normally defrost the fillet(s) in water (which takes like10 mins) and then marinate them for 5-10 mins or so and then cook them. Sometimes, I cook the fish right after applying the marinate. They always come out fine. The key is never over cook the fish and cook it just before you have to eat.

Yes it is safe to refreeze is it is not sitting out for long time.

I always thought you should NEVER refreeze anything that has been defrosted????

same here, always been told NEVER refreeze anything once its defrosted...
so i never buy frozen stuff from another city to bring home...:(

It depends on how you defrost it & for how long.
