Marinating Fish

I know next to nothing about cooking.. never do it.. but I have decided to start learning.

So say I have haddock fillets… and I have a general idea of what I wanna do with them.. so the plan is to marinate them in some sort of lemony concoction.. Im thinking lemon juice.. thyme.. possibly grated ginger.. So do I need to poke holes in the haddock? And how long would I leave them marinated for.. and then how long do I bake for?

Any help would be appreciated :halo:

Re: Marinating Fish

No, you never poke holes in fish. Depends how much time you have. I have cooked fish right after putting the marinate on it, it came out perfect, have left it anywhere from 10-30 mins, always came out good. So in short you don't have to marinate fish for long hours, 5-10 mins will be fine. Bake it till it is tender and slightly golden from top. I don't bake fish, i just cook it on the stove top. I would use some garlic too in the marinate.

Re: Marinating Fish

Oh right so no holes.. thanks. Thanks for the tips :) As you can tell I'm pretty lost :-/ But hopefully not for long.

Re: Marinating Fish

just use a fork to check for tenderness, if it easily falls apart, it means fish is done. I think you will do just fine. :)
