There’s always been this debate about mary jane amongst religious circles. And there’s a huge debate in the west about the immorality of it, with the initial stigma in the literature against it being due to it’s use by African Americans and how white women should be wary of the black man who smokes MJ. True story, lots of medical literature on this detailing the negativities of the substance based on who was smoking at the time, rather than actual negative medical effects.
With people now growing this for a business in states where it’s legal…
Would this be a deal breaker? Let’s say he has a stash growing in the backyard, and he’s selling it for medical purposes?

Wanted to point out something before people make up their mind on this. This is still illegal under FEDERAL law. Even though the Attorney General has announced they won't challenge the State law on this.....that's only been said about Colorado & Washington so far. Even with those 2 States....the prosecution standards have been tightened, but not eliminated.
So just b/c the State made it legal....that doesn't make people immune to Federal law.
Good to know, thanks paheli. Nonetheless, it's all over the news how people have made businesses out of this now, to grow medical MJ.
But let's say you've got someone who is growing a MJ farm for "medical reasons". Or let's say your rishta potential is using MJ and tells you it's for his back from a recent car accident? Or maybe he outright admits that he does it for fun?
Hmm. This one is a bit confusing. So he/she is doing it legally? I'd probably do a lot of research before making a decision, because this is something so new ( marijuana being legal ).
The laws on alcohol are pretty consistent for the most part. It's legal almost all over the US. There is no risk of losing your job if it's found in you ( random drug test ).
Besides it's not legal in Texas, so I don't think this affects me much.

Yes, people have been saying all this for YEARS....even before State's started making it legal. The bottom line is that its still against Federal law and that trumps State law. This is nothing like drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, or even eating pork. This activity can potentially land a person in a Federal court.
Personally, breaking a law this serious is a big "NO" for me. We're not talking about people getting a speeding ticket here. With our careers...both hubby & I can lose our license over this. So no...for BOTH of us....getting involved in anything related to illegal drugs is not an option.
Alcohol is legal too ... But that is a deal breaker ...
Or you can say that since you is not white ... You missy got nothing to worry about.
Or you decide on a case by case basis... He needs to be serious ... If he wears a t'shirt and grows cannabis as opposed to wearing a lab coat and controls how he uses or administers it ... then that is the sort of nuance you need to look for. Cannabis usage makes people lazy and paranoid in long term use ... Forgetfulness also results. Can you live with that in a recreational taker? Also, smoking it may not be very nice ... Taking it as a pill or in tea might demonstrate more professionalism.
He would have to be very good in all other departments ... You don't wanna one day see your husband get the munchies with his vest on drinking milk from the carton when your kids come home from school and see him like that.
