Marathon

I want to see a show of hands from all the Guppies who have ever successfully completed a half-marathon or even a full marathon.

I know that @Addie has completed quite a few. Anyone else?

Re: Marathon

wow congrats! You are ahead of atleast one person

Running a marathon had always been a dream but i’m not yet that good in outdoor running. It was a part of my this year’s resolution but since when my resolutions ever started getting fulfilled LOL.

I think @Lilly01 was working to compete in London marathon but I’m not sure if she did.

You should post some tips on outdoor running

Re: Marathon

:hehe:

It had also been a childhood dream of mine. And Alhamdulillah last year I was able to fulfil it.

Is Lilly01 the correct nick? Looks like the tag didn’t really catch.

The most common mistake is, that people start off with too much. And then they get frustrated, because their body is just not ready to do a 10k right away. In addition:

  1. Make sure you have a proper training plan that increases the distances you run gradually and also complements them with additional exercises strengthening your legs, your feet and your core.
  2. Adjust your diet, especially in the last few days before the main event.
  3. The shoes you’re wearing have a huge impact on your performance. You should NOT attempt a marathon or half-marathon with brand new shoes. Use them in your training before. But they shouldn’t be too old either. Ideally you buy new shoes around 6 months before the actual race. Make sure you get your feet measured and the shoes adjusted to your foot type. During training you may alternate between the new shoes and your old ones, but only in the beginning. When you get closer to the main event, you should only be using the shoes you will wear at the actual race.
