Guy do we have any marathon runners or someone who has participated in those longggg races/runs. I am considering a 450 Km run for a charity cause that I am involved with. I am not really fit by any means but I am not obese or anything infact I have a pretty athletic body (just not the athleticism yettt). I just wanted to know if someone can help me out with any type of tips or training program or anything that might be of help.
Re: Marathon type run
are you running the whole 450K yourself, or are you running a relay leg in it? if so, what distance? do you have a time goal, or just completion?
what is your previous experience with running? what is the longest you have run? how much time do you have to prepare? how many hours can you put in towards this per week?
i started running regularly about 3 years ago, and have run a couple of half marathons and a bunch of 5ks and 10ks since.. i could hook you up with a training program if you like.
Re: Marathon type run
hey queer ... yeah i'm thinking of running the whole 450K by myself ... and my goal is just completion ..... my previous exp with runing is playing soccer til about grade 12 ... then in uni i completely stopped and now i'm getting back into it again ... so yea ... as far as the time for prep is concerned its purely upto me ... its something i wanna do and arrange by myself so there are no time constraints ... and i think i can easily put about an hour to hour and a half a day into this ... so easily about 8-10 hours a week ... if you can help me out with a training program that'l be awesome
Re: Marathon type run
kay libran, personally i feel 450K as one run is a lot for someone who hasnt been a regular runner for a few years. but everyone is different and your body might be able to handle the stress of it all well. but you will have to train well for it, atleast 4-6 months of disciplined running. my first year, i was doing about 20 miles in about 3 hrs a week. which doesnt sound like a lot compared fo a 450k run, but it was challenging for me.
i would recommend you run for 4-6 weeks regularly first, as often and as long and as fast or slow or varied as your mind, body, schedule will permit. see how you feel at the end of it, how much distance and time you can run in a week without getting injured. and then you can better judge your starting level of fitness. i have a couple of book recommendations, and a few training program recommendations once you are at that stage.. for now, just get out there and run. i'll be around, PM me anytime.
