Pakistan’s famous Qawwal Haji Maqbool Sabri died in South Africa on Wednesday after remaining ill for quite some time. He was 66, DawnNews reported.
Sabri was born in the city of Kalyana of Indian Punjab on Oct 12, 1945. He got his early education from his father Haji Inayat Sabri.
He formed his own Qawwali group at the age of 11 and later in 1956 he, along with his late brother Ghulam Fareed Sabri, formed one of the most dynamic qawwal duos of Pakistan. Tajdar-i-Haram, Bhar Do Jholi were some of the masterpieces by the Sabri Brothers.
Arrangements were being made to bring back his body from Cape Town to Karachi.
Both brothers were exceptional at what they did - along with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. I've grown up listening to qawwali, and they will be deeply missed.
May Allah grant them all a place in Jannat. Ameen.
