I have some suggestions for the competition that I wanted to share with everyone:
I think all submissions should be sent in a private message to the moderator (or the person responsible for administering the competition). This way, everything is posted in the forum at the same time for the public to view and vote on. Sometimes, old entries get a lot of "face time" and stick in the mind. Other times, newer entries stay fresh in mind and come voting time, no one bothers to read the older entries they had already read previously. So to give everyone a fair chance, I think timing should be controlled. When people vote, they can comment on the entries and discuss ideas at that time.
The other suggestion I have is to post the submissions anonymously...i.e. post all entries but don't mention who wrote what. This way we can ensure the voting process is fair.
I personally think we shouldn't run the new competition parallel to the old one's polling. Wait for one to finish and then start the next. Perhaps we can do one each month? We all have busy lives and everyone needs a break.
As for promoting the thread, does GS allow for pop-up notifications when a user logs in? Back in the day, with GS chat, I used to get a popup notification, asking me to join the chatroom as soon as I logged in and regardless of which forum/blog section of GS I was logging into. I thought that was pretty cool. Can we do something similar for these competitions, notifying users across all forums/blogs?
