I personally would want RS to stay on, but keeping an eye on how he has proceeded so far. He might not opt for an extension, in that case we would have a new COAS next year.
So who’d be in the line to become COAS next year?

Well said.
Therefore some jealous sectors need to get over making Raheel Sharif's popularity a controversial thing, and strop spending paranoia and panic over baseless propaganda.
COAS' successor will have a clear precedent to follow and chances are those who cannot stand Raheel Sharif's popularity will also find something to pick on next Chief in case he becomes equally popular.
Let's not forget, the institutions are build by people.

Nawaz Sharif brought Musharraf, Ali Kuli Khan was the other candidate who could have proved better. The latter was against Kargil as well. Nawaz Sharif ki choice say dar lagta hay...

The only silverlining is that Raheel Sharif has a chance to bring his team forward, NS will have to chose one of those.

For you all know, Nawas Sharif might get down on his knees and beg Gen Raheel to apply for extention than choose one of his team members. Simply because he's too assured of his vow to not turn him into a political martyr, come what may.
The current DG ISI seems like a very good choice for next COAS position, provided he's not due to retire in next three years, and has relevant military rank and experience.

Gen Raheel will definitely leave a larger than life legacy. He will be remembered for a long time to come.
But I rather believe Kuli fully and say that Pak Fauj is capable of producing Gen Raheel’s replacement and nation won’t miss out on his excellence.

It was no doubt Nawaz sharif, but Musharraf was also brought forward by the same guy.

He is definitely rendering great services for the country, but as a wise and professional solider I think it would be a great idea if he can groom a protege or ideal successor for the post, if NS in cooperation with military does not make any blunders in the appointment process.
His achievements will speak for themselves if and when he leaves office.
