Many just voted for food

*No wonder the voter turn out was huge!

”I went to the voting centre and gave my name and district where I lived to a man,” said Wassif Hamsa, a 32-year-old journalist who lives in the predominantly Shia area Janila in Baghdad. ”This man then sent me to the person who distributed my monthly food ration.”

Many Iraqis had expressed fears before the election that their monthly food rations would be cut if they did not vote. They said they had to sign voter registration forms in order to pick up their food supplies.

Their experiences on the day of polling have underscored many of their concerns about questionable methods used by the U.S.-backed Iraqi interim government to increase voter turnout.

Just days before the election, 52 year-old Amin Hajar who owns an auto garage in central Baghdad had said: ”I’ll vote because I can’t afford to have my food ration cut…if that happened, me and my family would starve to death.”

*Congrats to US on this staged elections. *

Re: Many just voted for food

Oiy Daisy You awake early in the morning, usually I get to see your hate filled message close to afternoon. What happened could'nt sleep because of great success in Iraq? It's OK brother the democracy is coming to a theatre near you. Hang in there and then you will be able to taste true democracy like AS and myself have tasted in U.S.

AS: What did the U.S army cook for these voters dont tell me it was pork?

Re: Many just voted for food

Verizon, I would not be surprised if they cooked pork for these voters. They have a long history of doing such acts. Do you remember British Army forced Muslim soldiers of India to bite on bullets that were smeared in pig fat?

Re: Many just voted for food

and you guys are the aulad of those brave soldiers. It shows.

Re: Many just voted for food

Maddy wrote"and you guys are the aulad of those brave soldiers. It shows."

Maddy you need to read some history. Those Muslims soldiers refused to use the ammunition, and as a consequence were shackled in chains and imprisoned. That incident resulted in the struggle for independence. Have you ever heard of First War of Independence (1857)???

Re: Many just voted for food

I thought the first war of independence was fought in 1971.

OK yaar, same difference. Those guys were yesterday as their descendants are today. It doesn’t really matter. Let’s talk about Iraq and leave 1857 in behind.

Re: Many just voted for food

^^ Thats equivalent to desertion, I am glad that British were kind enough to shackle them and not kill them, or using Madhanee's explanation we may not be chatting today.

Re: Many just voted for food

Vote and you will be fed don't vote we take away your tiny monthly rations more like a dictatorship than free choice!

Nice democrohypocrisy these amerikkkan terrrorists implement and this in an occupied country where all the candidates are hand picked and linked to the current puppet mafia in Iraq!

This pertains to democracy in the house that Saudd built.

Re: Many just voted for food

Food for thought

Re: Many just voted for food

Sorry, I couldn’t find anything related to “cracy” there. The only thing I could find was reference to “Municipal” elections… Is that what you were referring to for “democracy”?

Re: Many just voted for food

why are you getting ahead of yourself. your jihadi brother Agent Smith is apparently unable to read.

since when is registering to vote the same as actually voting?

Re: Many just voted for food

I can understand the concept of election is quite hard initially living and being brought up in a repressive society. But give it some time and Allah acha karsi(God will help). You will see what the article was talking about in terms of democracy and elections.

Some more info on the Iraqi elections:

Interesting the parallel between the Vietnamese elections in 1967 (under US occupation) and those in Iraq.

Also the “Iraq Election Guide” is a neat list of the “candidates”.
