Many die in Indian bus accident

**At least 22 people from a wedding party were killed when their bus plunged into a river in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said.**The incident took place in Jalaun district, nearly 200km (124 miles) from the state capital, Lucknow.

The bus, carrying nearly 70 passengers, fell into the Pahunch river late at night while crossing a makeshift bridge, police said.

Forty people managed to escape by breaking window panes.

Rescuers have recovered 22 bodies from the bus submerged in the river.

Road accidents kill thousands of Indians every year. Most are blamed on reckless driving, old vehicles and bad roads.
