Manoj Night Shyamalan's "Signs"

Looks like another hit from Shyamalan. He’s been on the cover of Newsweek, Premiere. Newsweek calls Shyamalam “The Next Spielberg”.

“Signs” opens this Friday.

His last movie "Unbreakable" was a mega flop on the box office. It was just pathetic!

Yes but Unbreakable still manager to get 76 million. Sixth Sense was a run away hit with 300 million. In fact Indian media cried RACISM when Manoj Shyamalan did not win Oscar. His Stuart Little was a hit too. (He wrote the screen play.

Award Dinning

Was racism behind the Oscar snubbing of ‘‘The Sixth Sense’’?. Though the Indian media sees the R-word, director M. Night Shyamalan doesn’t think so by Corey Takahashi

INDIA INK Did the Academy do Shyamalan wrong?

India – already at odds with Pakistan – has found a new enemy: the Academy Awards. After ‘‘The Sixth Sense,’’ directed by Indian-born M. Night Shyamalan, came away with nary a statuette, the subcontinent’s media went into attack mode. The Times of India cried ‘‘cultural racism,’’ while the Pioneer headlined an article ‘‘And the Oscar goes to… apartheid!,’’ dismissing Oscar fave ‘‘American Beauty’’ as ‘‘a fluffy film about Yankee suburbia.’’ ‘‘All our leading directors have been shabbily treated by the West,’’ says Pioneer editor in chief Chandan Mitra, citing last year’s virtual Oscar shutout of ‘‘Elizabeth,’’ directed by Shekhar Kapur.
Unfortunately for the Indian press, the chief snubbee isn’t buying the argument. ‘‘It’s not racism, it’s capitalism,’’ says Shyamalan, referring to studios’ aggressive Oscar campaigns. ‘‘They spend like crazy, and it has an influence.’’ Adds an Academy spokesman: ‘‘A couple of years ago, the Brits were complaining they didn’t have enough nominations. [Then] Americans were complaining the Brits had too many.’’ Sounds like another late night at the United Nations.

unbreakable was unbearable - I couldn't watch more than 10 minutes. I hopes this one is better.

gee!
I wonder out of 76 million, Unbreakable made. How much was the budget of the movie! Stars like Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson and I bet you the movie atleast costed about 50 million to produce. Signing up Willis right after the mega success of the 6th sense. I am sure Willis wanted a little extra.

I am just saying this. I like Mr. Night! But he aint no Spielberg! As for him being Indian. He was asked this question after the release of Unbreakable. He said he was a proud "American" and his parents are from India not him...

So I dont think India shouldnt take any credit for what he is doing! And as for stuart little. The book was written a long time ago. So writing a screen play from a book is not a biggy!

As for the Oscars! Do you think that him not getting the Oscar was also conspired by the ISI...

Man I hate people who whine! Big deal he didnt get the oscar! This reminds me all that nonsense posted when Lagaan didnt win on this forum!

It would be great if movie release date was on a Halloween Day.

Signs could face a tough time as Road To Perdition & Austin Powers are already released.

Anyway, Good Luck to M.Night Shyamalan.

At the end of the game the king and the pawn go back in the same box.

i just saw signs today. it was alright. nothing great...the ending was kinda pointless

DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE

Ok, what the flip was the point of this movie.

Bang boom, aliens walking around, crop circles. People losing faith, nothing scary! Its such a time waster! I had no idea what the heck did the alien spray on the kid and argh! This doesn't even deserve a rating thats how bad it is! Oh same goes for Unbreakable, another pointless movie!

It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.

The best horror thriller I have seen in years. Coco... go get a nut! It's an amazing movie with top notch reviews and I've been recommended it to everyday since I saw it on second day of release. I'm planning to go again...

oh man, I've seen so many alien flicks that
I'm begining to loose faith in human kind
being alone, if not in the universe then
atleast on earth.
IMO this alien trend started by speilberg
is been used to a point where people are
even doubting their parents.
I personally believe that some of my collegues and one of boss is an alien.
uhhhhhh what a pain in the ahem.........

I ain't watchin' anymore o that "alien-took-
my-husband's-skin-and-is-makin'-circle-in-
the-crops".

I woke up floating in a jar with tubes sticing out of my sides."

Actually Sixth sense collected 650+ M USD and Unbreakable definitely earned more than 75 M USD.

I have met teh guy, I like his work in general although not of the highest calibre, its still good. I liked sixt sense, was disappointed by unbreakable and wa snot too thrilled about signs. In the case of these 2 movies, i liked the ads better than the movie.

One thing that he should prolly watch out for is not being typecast as a director..look where it got Quentin tRrantino. I mean that dude copied the hong kong greats and made a name for himself, but is now on the sidelines because he kept doing teh same type of thing over and over again, and there are others who do that better than him.

Thats what M.Night should watch out for. Time to show his prowess at something different.

Thank you!

I slept through the movie but that's not a first. I have done that before & usually the movies I find boring end up having high rankings & awards. So I am sure this one will be the same ...

There are a lot of people that think the ending was pointless, but it wasn;t. The story isn;t just abouit martians invading, its also about faith. Its believeing that nothing that happens is without a reason. Once we lose faith, we have nothing. And I thought the sceens where they are in the basement, were really spooky.
I will admit the ending could have had more flare, but, its wasn't without its charm.
