@nadeemma...well its hard to say weather its Pakistani corruption or inefficiancies...I dont think they want to feed embassy staff first but they most probably wants to bring it the "Right Way" since they are coming here for the first time under so many conditions and Consulate do not want to make it a failure...Having said that I also agree with you a little since the lackluster, delayed and incomplete response from responsible authorities back home in Pakistan had almost ruin the whole season...and according to some current news there are some corruption allegations by one of the importer (not me). I am also an importer (Importer means off course based in USA). As per my current info. as of today...Consulate will bring there first shipment in first week of August (and I dont think anyone will bring it before this trial shipment) hence only 3-4 weeks will be left for the season. I dont know all the importer's but I know only couple importers (including me) are very active in this project...including one based in New York. If I am able to bring mangoes this season than I will let you know how you can buy direct from me but it all depends when I can bring them here.
Now as far as honest senario is concerned, you guys dont know how many emials, phone calls, documentations, calculations and agencies we had to go through so far ...not to mention unseen risk of perishable product and $$$ investment...it is very discouraging but I have not gaveup yet.
Sorry i was not able to check your response earlier. Well from what you are saying there is still some hope although i dont buy your explanataion that the consulate and embassy wants to make sure that everything is being done the right. Of all the people you think Pakistani officials even know how to maintain quality control. Any ways please let me know when you get a shipment. I live in a smaller town but we have 15-20 families and we can send you a decent order.
Heard on Dawn news yesterday that the first shipment of 1000kg mangoes has arrived in Chicago.
That there was intense opposition from Indian and South American mango lobbies.
That Hillary Clinton and late Richard Holbrooke played a role in getting mango import going from Pakistan.
And that today there is some function or mango festival in Chicago today to introduce these and then they will be available in regular grocery stores.
When are they coming to my nearest Stop and Shop in the NorthEast ?
