This is wrong practice, it should not be done in Bachpan but i am sure that it is neither wrong nor right Islamically on any one to break or continue the bachpan mangnee. This comes like under social contracts. The parents pledged between themselves but under the pressure of their children could not keep the pledge, may be that has something to do with pledge keeping in Islam, however i think no other thing can come up in this case.
