Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

Engagement will be on upcoming saturday and I need your advice on a few things since this is my first time doing anything like this.

I’m the eldest son so I’ve got the responsibility of arranging this event for my sister and most of our cousins are from out of town so I have to do all the work and arrangements myself.

It will be a small event approx. 50-60 people total. Don’t want to spend a fortune, just want something decent in economical budget.

Here are my questions:

  1. Is it better to do this event in a hall or at home??? ( Our home is 2 Kanals with a good sized lawn )

  2. If we decide to rent a hall please suggest some good places in Lahore Defence / Cantt area which are economical yet elegant for such an event. I was thinking about Defence Club but have no idea about it’s pricing or quality of service.

  3. What things I need to take care of for this event if I rent a hall? Like they will do catering, will I have to take care of decor and photographer and DJ???

  4. How much in total am I looking for all of this approximately??? And does the girl family pay all these costs for this event???

Thanks!

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

i think it would me more good to arrange this event at your own home as u have got a lawn and event would be consist of 50 to 60 people.
generally girl's parents cover all the cost of arranging event.in laws bring gifts for bride.
you should hire a good photographer for capturing those beautiful moments of engagement.if u need a good photographer, then i can also suggest u a reasonable photographer whose work is outstanding.

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

well i would suggest you to get it arrange at home it will be cost effective and descent too.
hire some event planner and let all the things to be arranged by him no need to worry at all just enjoy the event.

defance club and others halls are hopefully already booked because this is season. and lawn will be descent enough.

and no need to worried about anything event planners have everything in hand just give them idea of budget he will definitely arrange with in budget,
and if we talk about photographer what do you want still or video/ covered by male or female! if you are inspired of anyone's work hire them otherwise just set preferences and ask your event planner to get 1.

if you need any specific guidance you are welcome to ask

Best Wishes for your special days

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

for remaining
the total depends on what kind of food menu and decoration you are looking for
there are too much variations in menu
like chicken, mutton one dish menu and many more

quality one dish chicken menu costs arround 550-650/ head for 50-60 people if we talk about some large gathering there are chances to reduce cost but you know quality does mater too.

same as for mutton menu quality menu costs around 900 pkr per head

all depends on what do you selecct

in case of renting a hall dj and decor will be provided by them if you are not emphasising on the man of your choice

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

as advice for food on engagement go for
regular foods like chiken qorma, briyani and same for mutton
tradationol foods are for mehndi mayoon
and yes event is on weekend so you have no time decide the things right now

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

Thanks for the insight guys, my lawn is small-medium size it's not huge so I don't want to run into the risk of not having enough space you know.

"Saad Malik" have you used any wedding planners recently, how much would it cost to plan a small engagement like mine???

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

Guys to give you guys a better idea here are some pics of my lawn, garage and outside of the house:

Now as you can see it’s not a huge lawn so you think it will be sufficient to accommodate 50-60 people, mind you some people might bring their kids so that will take additional chairs and space.

We were planning to setup gents area in this lawn whereas women setup inside the house and the food stalls in the garage. If we did this where would we hold the ceremony??? No space left for a stage outside so will have to do it inside and it will be damn crowded inside too if all people are called inside I think.

Another thing to consider is the parking, as you can see the outside of the house, I’m pretty sure there will be an issue with parking space as well.

Even if we manage all this somehow, then there is still a risk of rain and loadshedding so a generator has to be arranged as well which will obviously add more to the budget.

Lastly, since we are marrying my sister outside of family, so there is an issue of satisfying the laarke waale and they might not like the idea of bachaat by doing it home.

So due to all these factors, I was leaning much towards renting a hall / event avenue within defence of some sort to take care of all these issues and the larkai waale will be happy as well with that and not think we have cheapened out in any way. Even though I know we can’t fully satisfy them but still got to try atleast

What do you guys say???

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

well dear lawn is enough for gents event with a round table seating arrangement.

i guess parking would be enough and generator career will be adjusted outside easily

you shared some serious concerns in last paragraphs
well you better know what are the perceptions of new siblings are. so manage according to that

and yes there maybe a chance of rainfall so a small hall would be better and secure option.

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

Thanks for your replies, my main concern is that if we decide to arrange everything in the lawn and garage, can we do it for 50-60 people alongwith a small stage setup easily???

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

as i mentioned earlier only gents can b easily served in lawn. and yes with a stage

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

if its a small event , u just put sofas next to a wall and u and ur cousins can decorate the wall behind with flowers , clothes etc.

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

I had my engagement at defence club.. We had around 90 people. They did all the catering and decor themselves. I just hired a good photographer. There was a dj too.. The overall cost was lower than getting an arrangement in a lawn. The food was amazing. There was a bridal room too .. If you need anymore details you can pm me :)

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

Although it seems that you can arrange everything at home because you can certainly accommodate 6 tables of 10 people each in that space, you may want the convenience of having the event at a club/restaurant like Xayra mentions.

Depends on what your budget is and how much effort you want to put into this.

Honestly though.....you really don't need an event planner for an event of this size.

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

usually when someone want something good, organised, value for money and a tension free time they need an event planner.
BTW what does an event planner mean there!
someone who will provide seating arrangements (chairs, sofas), food for guests and crockery,

Tent with pools. lighting inside tent (if required) and floral decoration !

or anything else!

and yes if you can get everything (in-house) then definitely no need to some event planner or caterers

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

i worked as an event planner. I've arranged some small size events too.. It's not that event planners charge a lot. But in this situation it's better to get a hall :)

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

well don't you think it's depends on what vendor do you select
obviously when you hire let suppose hanif rajpoot for lawn it will cost 5 time bigger than hall :)
some quality services costs even more economic at lawn

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

actually I have to respectfully disagree with your evaluation that if someone wants value for money they need to get an event planner.

on the contrary, value for money means rolling up your sleeves and doing things yourself.

it really all depends on how resourceful and organized you are as a person.....and how good a support group you have around you. (even if you can assign just one responsibility per person, you will only need 3 or 4 people, you will simply have to supervise.)

I've done enough event planning to know that squeezing any sum of money out of a smaller gathering is really not a good use of my time. (Definitely huge amounts of bottom-line profit because the effort on my part will not be significant.)

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

it was not my core point that any planner is really required for value of money.

and yes if you have support group it will be best but when you are having everything on the cost of product without any additional charges. then why to put everyone in game.

i think we are mixing two different things vendors and event planners (who charges extra for services)

Re: Mangni / Engagement help required - Lahore !!!

Decided to go with a hall, please suggest a good hall / veneue for 60-80 people gathering in the defence/cantt/gulberg/liberty/modeltown/garden town area. Availability will be another issue but please recommend some halls/venues and I'll visit them / call them for availability.
