Management, HR, or IT Management?

I now seem to be more confused than ever before. I thought I’d give accounting a shot once more this summer and I’m dreading it. Although I’ve only attended about four classes, but it feels like a pain.

I’ve realized that the accounting I’ve taken before was more in terms of reviewing the statements and trying to make sense of them than actually preparing the statements.

Given that I was previously suggested that Atkinson might not be worth it, I’m left with UTSC Management program or Ryerson.

At Ryerson, I could either get into Management, Human Resources Management, or IT Management.

I personally like Management at college. However, my peers are advising me against it, as they say Management is too broad and not at all specialized. Therefore, it wouldn’t be worth as much or finding work would be difficult after.

I’m aware HRMT is something I can handle. IT Management interests me, but I have no IT background, so I’m a little nervous persuing it.

Here are the calendars for the three programs:

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (BUSINESS MANAGEMENT) MANAGEMENT MAJOR

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (BUSINESS MANAGEMENT) HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT MAJOR

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT) TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKS OPTION - PROGRAM FOR (CAAT)

Re: Management, HR, or IT Management?

Let's see what do we have here..
- You want a line which is not a pain like accounting
- You have no I.T background so I.T sounds a little intimidating
- Management is too broad therefore finding jobs could be a challenge
What are we left with here. HR? There isn't a lot of money and job market is competitive.

What are your longterm goals? Be clear so you can decide.
If I were you I'd pursue accounting. It is dry but gets you an entry level job rather easily.
Once you have accounting background, it opens a lot of doors..be it HR or I.T. accounting knowledge will help.
If you enjoyed reviewing financial statements then look in Finance programs as well.

Re: Management, HR, or IT Management?

Fayz, I currently work at the college's Employment Office where I help out peers with their resumes, cover letters and a bit of job search.

If you were to ask me about my long term goals, I'd love to work for an employment/career centre in the future and do more than what I'm doing right now.

I'd really have to struggle through accounting, as I don't like it one bit. Finance is something that I could look into; however, not too interested.
