Crown attorney Larry Hodgkins says the suspect needs psychological evaluation
Eyewitnesses on board the bus, which was travelling through a desolate stretch of Canada's vast prairies, said the attacker stabbed the person sitting next to him 50 or 60 times.
He then severed his head with a large knife, reportedly b*****shing the head to terrified passengers.
Friends of Mr McLean have paid tribute to him.
William Caron, whose brother was due to meet Mr McLean from the bus, told the Canadian Press that he had always tried to avoid trouble.
Friends say the victim is Tim McLean, but police have not confirmed this
"All the time I've known Tim, he's never been the type of guy to get into a fight. He always kept to himself when there's strangers around." One friend told broadcaster CBC that Mr McLean was loved by many and called him a "ladies man".
In an e-mail to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, a friend of Mr McLean, Jossie Kehler, told of her sadness.
“He has a lot of friends and they are all very upset he’s gone, and they would like to say they miss him and he will always be in their hearts,” she wrote.
Newly-established Facebook groups and Mr McLean’s Myspace page have filled with messages of support for the victim’s family after news of the horrific killing.
On Facebook, news of the killing led to hundreds of friends and well-wishers joining a tribute group.
Re: Man stabbed, beheaded on Manitoba bus (canada)
Apparently not only he stabbed and decapitated the fellow-passenger, he also ate parts of his body. All of it without any known provocation or previous contact. I foresee a mental imbalance defense. This Li guys might be bi-polar and just snapped for no reason.
^ True.
**More grisly details emerge in Canadian bus murder**
THE family of a 22-year-old Canadian man who was beheaded by a fellow passenger on a bus made a plea for privacy as more gruesome details of the crime were revealed.
A policeman reported seeing the attacker hacking off pieces of the victim and eating them, according to a tape leaked on the internet.
Police have not confirmed the victim’s name, but his family said he was Tim McLean, who was returning home to Winnipeg, Manitoba, from a job as a carnival worker in Edmonton, Alberta.
He was killed on a bus last week by a man who stabbed him 50 times and then cut his head off with a huge knife. Police have charged Vince Weiguang Li, 40, of Edmonton, with second-degree murder.
“He was a little guy with a heart bigger than you could know,” said the victim’s uncle, Alex McLean, reading a statement from the family in Winnipeg.
In the leaked tape of police radio transmissions, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer refers to the attacker as “Badger” and says he is armed with a knife and a pair of scissors and "is defiling the body at the front of the bus as we speak.
“OK, Badger’s at the back of the bus, hacking off pieces and eating it,” he says at the end of the recording of about 80 seconds.
Police issued a statement saying they were aware portions of the tape had been leaked.
Officers responded to a desolate stretch of the TransCanada Highway about 19 kilometres from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, after the bloody killing late on Wednesday on a Greyhound bus.
Passengers said that shortly after they reboarded following a break, the suspect — for no apparent reason — stabbed the man sitting next to him several dozen times as others fled in horror. He then severed the man’s head, displayed it and began hacking at the body.

This is so scary.

The killer Li’s employer, Vincent Augert, told the Edmonton Journal that Li had delivered papers until Monday. He said that Li told him recently that he had a job interview in Winnipeg. Augert said Li’s immediate supervisor described him as a “nice guy.”
“He had a Rambo, hunting knife covered in blood and he just kept going at the guy,” Caton said. “He was very calmly killing the guy and the other guy was screaming bloody murder,” he added.
“There was no rage or anything. He was just like a robot stabbing the guy,” Caton said.
As the three guarded the door with a crow bar and a hammer, the attacker went back to the body and calmly came to the front of the bus to show off the head, Caton said.
