Kenneth Bassarath, a primary school teacher who killed his son-in-law with a cricket bat as he tried to defend his daughter, has been jailed by a London court for two-and-a-half years.
Bassarath, 64, went to his daughter’s house after a call from her as she cowered in fear in a bedroom with her two children. Bassarath took a swing at her husband, supermarket worker Sergio Mendes, 32, knocking him to the ground and causing brain injuries from which he later died.
