Man held over Frenchwoman's murder

**A man has been detained after a European arrest warrant was issued for a murder in Ireland 14 years ago. **Ian Bailey will appear in court in Dublin on Saturday in connection with the death of 39-year-old filmmaker Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

The suspect was arrested at his home in west Cork at about midnight on Friday. It is the third time he has been arrested over the murder.

A French magistrate has been carrying out an inquiry into the death.

Magistrate Patrick Gachon was asked to conduct the investigation after the Irish Director of Public Prosecutions said no-one in Ireland would be charged.

Ms Toscan du Plantier was beaten to death outside her isolate holiday home in west Cork on 23 December 1996.

In 2008, her body was exhumed from her grave in the southern French region of Lozere and taken to Paris for DNA testing.

Mr Bailey has denied involvement in her death. He is expected to challenge any move to extradite him to France over the killing.

Ms Toscan du Plantier was the wife of renowned French film producer Daniel Toscan du Plantier, who died in February 2003.This article is from the BBC News website. © British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
