Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

AHMEDABAD: In a bizarre incident, a 35-year-old man, Ramveer Singh Baghel, cut his tongue and offered it to appease goddess Amba at a temple in
Meghaninagar on Sunday morning. Devotees, who found him bleeding profusely from his mouth, treated him like a deity and anointed his forehead instead of rushing him to the hospital. Surrounded by devotees, he had not received any medical attention till late evening on Sunday. Baghel too has chosen to stay in the temple.

“He is a devout man and kept fasts and other religious penance twice a year for Navratri and Chaitri Navratri. This Navratri, he was being guided by a sadhu to eat just once a day and chant mantras continuously. He told me in gestures that he dreamt on Saturday night that Mataji appeared before him and asked for a sacrifice. He chose to offer his tongue,” said Suresh Baghel, his uncle.

Baghel, who is unmarried, migrated from Bhind, Madhya Pradesh some 20 years ago. He stays at Kismatnagar in Meghaninagar and works as painter for building contractors. Early on Sunday, devotees thronging the Amba Mata temple spotted Baghel at 5 am with blood oozing from his mouth. When they enquired, he pointed to the deity’s feet where they saw his tongue lying. A blade was also found in a corner of the temple. The devotees then washed off the blood stains and gave him a fresh pair of clothes.

As news spread that a man had chopped off his tongue, people started pouring in to see him. Some even garlanded him and took out a small procession in his honour. “His tongue is still lying in the temple. There is no chance of corrective surgery now. The devotees are not ready to take him to a hospital,” said a local resident on condition of anonymity.

BR Pandor, deputy commissioner of police said, “There is little we can do until a police complaint is filed. However, we are trying to ensure that the man at least gets some medical attention.”

is this kind of sacrifice allowed in hinduism?

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

.. Maverick…I reckon he was speechless to say the least :hehe:…!!!

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

any particular reason why he chose to sacrifice tongue? why tongue when one can sacrifice anything? this question could only be answered by Mr. Baghel, if only he could speak.

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

Ma Kali has blessed him :)

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

Now he is that much closer to the idol of Amba, they both can't talk

... Just looked on youtube ... It was Amba who appeared in a nightmare of mine when I was 6 years old. Those videos have brought back some bad memories.

She was trying to compress my family in concrete revolving pillars and her pet tiger chased me down their palace hall way ... Aaarrghh!

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

sounds so sick:bummer:

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

Wow!

All he had to do is to get married. Why cut off his tongue!

ROFL! :D Good one!

i asked is such sort of sacrifice allowed ?

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

^Yes..Those are personal choices.

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

Self mutilation and sacrifice like this is extreme form of asceticism proscribed and allowed in Hinduism.

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

Self mutilition or mutiliation murder of some animal all are nonsense and exist in all religion.......
Whenver I imagine about the deadly scene of a maulavi going door to door with blood soaked sacrifical weapon I shudder.. I also puked when i visisted a Kali templed and the gory scene after seeing the gory scene of animal murder..

Needless to say I can't find a single word in Geeta which proscribe mutilation of anyboydn self or anyone else..

I even will go on to say any god who gets pleased over any sprt of sacrfice of any living being needs help.....
My god is not blood thirsty for sure

but Alritter goodess is blood thirsty....... perhaps coz according to him such kind of act is permissible ............

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

can we please have some discussions regarding the beliefs of Hinduisms? I am eager to know why this guy did such an act?

This act has nothing to do with beliefs of Hinduism as such. Although stray incidents of this kind do happen, but it happen rarely.

This guy did such act due to his lack of proper education about hinduism and specially GOD.

but Alritter and diwana are saying that it is part of relegion,

does difference of opinion exists in the hinduism in this regard?

or if it is prohibited where it is mentioned. i wud appreciate if u provide the refrences.

Re: Man chops off tongue, offers it to goddess

Simple may be his tongue had been a trouble creator for him and he had faced enough troubles due to it. So ultimatley he decided to cut it off. Now he is making it as he has sacrificed it for the Godess. You know kill two sparrows with one arrow ;)

Plz ask them to bring their reference where is it allowed in authentic hindu scripture which is BhagvadGita.

Peace.

Thank you.
