Re: Mama’s Jewellery Set
Are you going to get your set melted and have a new one made or you just want to remove the stones and add features to it ???
If its the latter, you will first have to ask a jeweler whether he can make any changes to the existing set ?? Most of the time its not possible. Plus its an old one, are sure about the clarity, is it 21 crt or 22 crt etc ???
Does it ( there is a term called lakh which was used sometimes in the older days in sets ) have any lead in it ??? The stones in your existing set might be difficult to remove. So to make changes to a set is sometimes not feasible.
So you will have to think abt all that first.
Of course it your melting it and making a new one, have the set broken down in front of you, coz they will literally beat it with a hammer to remove all the stones and stuff… so things will be flying here and there and every fleck of gold counts. They will deduct the stones weight, charges you a small fee for the melting , take their cut and give u a final amount.
This is what my sister did, she got two small gold sets on her wedding from the boys relatives , terrible design , we melted them and sold it off, went and bought one big amazing set instead !!!
I am a bit confused when u said u wanted to keep the base the same , that is why i asked the above questions ???
I am not melting and making a new one. Yes it is that Nau-Lakha necklace that used to be back in old days. It is nice but traditional; i want to add some stones or pearls or something to make it look new and fancy!
