I was watching a show where this supposedly VERY knowledgeable lady (Islamic) was telling a girl that complained her husband abuses her, treats her badly..she said if his mother (the guy's) asks him to divorce u he HAS to listen to his mother otherwise it's considered "na-fermani" and he'll be punished..
Yikes! No woman should have to put up with abuse from her husband. The Prophet SAWS told the men in his community that the best among them is the one who is kindest to his wife. It's not right to follow one aspect of Islam and ignore others. And if this woman's marriage has become sooooo dysfunctional that is it beyond repair........then she should not have to wait for her mother-in-law to give the signal for divorce. Islam allows a woman to get a divorce from her husband....she doesn't need to wait for the guy's mom. It's bad enough to commit zulm against others, it's worse to endure it.
