Mama Lagna (Being Uncle)

Those who are from Punjab had heard many many times that in an argue where other person is trying to be smart oftenly labeled as “To Mama lagda aay”.

I wonder why “Mama (uncle)” is always ghaseeting in an argue

Anyone know why?

you are right..:k:..agla chacha bhi ho sakta hai..

mera khayal hai …aftter parents Mama close relation hota hai..isi liyay usay target karty

Well from mother side 'Mama' is close relation and from father side 'Chacha or Taya' is close relation. Lekin target sirf bechara 'mama' hi hota hy. :D

I guess shayad larki waloon ki side hy, isliyeh :D

Mostly aisy moqo’n par Mama’s hi stand lety…aksar koi phaDa wagera ho to bhanjay aksar mama’s ko hi kehty..

Well in that case, I have heard several times, “tu isda piyo lagda ay?” and, even sometimes, “ay tuwada chacha lagda ay”… I have come across these terms too! yeah!

bilkul.. idhar punjab mein ye terms buhat aam hain...chacha very rare...but...tu eda Abba lagna e...ziada istemal hota

well, in fact there are many terms in punjabi which is considered vulgar but in fact if it is compared/translated in english that term will sounds like the ordinary terms used in english, funny and amusing :D

In a male dominated society, Mothers relatives are easy target… Naani yaad aa gai is also used. It should be dadi yaad aa jana as in our society most children spend more time with dadis than naanis
