probably from Mallah [boat sailers]…Mallahs ply small boats in local rivers taking folks across the rives…they do this all day to make a meager living. some of them are also a fishermen.

I think Malhi is caste in Sindhi Hindus. There is this famous Indian Sindhi writer Gobind Malhi.
