Malik Ishaq:Freed terrorist addresses rallies

Ishaq is out on bail from Kot Lakhpat after 14 years of imprisonment - he is accused of killing 70 people in 44 cases.
KARACHI:*
Malik Mohammad Ishaq, a leader of the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, made an appearance in Khairpur on Friday to address the ‘Difaa-e-Sahaba’ conference in the city. The event was organised by Jamia Haidriah.
Ishaq was recently released on bail from Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail after serving 14 years of imprisonment. Ishaq was accused of killing 70 people in 44 cases. He was acquitted in 34 and granted bail in 10 cases, including one in which he was charged with plotting the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.
Ishaq’s presence in Khairpur is significant since the city was home to SSP leader Allama Sher Hyderi, who was assassinated in August 2009. A speaker at the conference invoked Hyderi’s memory while introducing Ishaq.
Ishaq spoke of his resolve to continue with his mission, he praised the leadership of the SSP and said he would continue to make sacrifices and work to defend Islam.
Ishaq has been on a publicity tour of sorts after his release and has even addressed people in his hometown of Rahim Yar Khan. “He is re-establishing himself as a leader,” says analyst Ayesha Siddiqa. “Even though there was no curb on his activities when he was in jail – there was his involvement in the Sri Lankan cricket team attack and other plans as well – but his physical presence means that he can organise things better. He is strengthening his base and we do know that the SSP is spreading rapidly in Sindh. For example, Ghotki and Jacobabad are very affected – you see SSP graffiti and flags there.” Siddiqa offered a grim view of militancy in the province, where she says Jamaatud Dawa is also making inroads. “While we are talking of peace in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, the centre of militancy and radicalisation is in Sindh and Punjab.”
While he may have been in jail for 14 years, Ishaq appeared to be quite updated with the news of allegedly blasphemous content available online. He riled the crowd by describing blasphemous images in graphic detail. He also questioned the categorisation of religious leaders as being involved in militancy and sectarianism. The crowd waved flags and chanted slogans against a particular sect during his speech.
A video of Ishaq’s speech in Khairpur was uploaded to the official YouTube channel of the Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (the SSP’s new name). Scores of men can be seen attending the event and chanting slogans.
The Express Tribune previously reported that Ishaq’s family received a stipend from the Punjab government while he was in jail. Ishaq has also been provided with two police guards. According to Interior Minister Rehman Malik, the man is under observation.

Other politicians can’t hold open rallies because of security threats
Who created these groups & allowed them to flourish
The spread to Sindh is esp disturbing

Zardari remained in jail about a decade for much lesser charges,
Police can do much more if there is a pressure.

Re: Malik Ishaq:Freed terrorist addresses rallies

It is hypocrisy of our Islamic society. A terrorist is a terrorist only if he is killing us otherwise he is a freedom fighter. Palestine and Kashmir has freedom fighters but all those who are fighting inside Pakistan are terrorist. For us Muslims of other countries are more important than Muslims of Pakistan. We are proud to kill our own people just to free Palestine, Kashmir or Chechnya. It is time to reshape our policy of Muslim Umma. First put our own house in order. Hamne sab ka theka kyo la liya hai? And mind we all. We were not practical and that is the reason that we had never succeeded in any of our maneuvers. We have not defeated USSR in Afghanistan, in fact we acted as US agents against Soviets (Pakistani Blackwater or Xe) without salaries. US financed the war and we contributed our emotional youths, became jobless with Soviet's exit. They returned to Pakistan and resumed what they knew: Killing ppls. It does not matter to them if they are killing follow Muslims as they had done the same in Afghanistan too. They stopped using their minds and act only on commands.

Sectarian clashes: LeJ chief Malik Ishaq placed under house arrest

A police contingent has been deployed outside Ishaq’s house and people have been barred from visiting him.
MULTAN:
Following a spike in sectarian violence and reservations over his vitriolic sermons against the Shia community, district authorities in Rahim Yar Khan placed Malik Ishaq, leader of the banned organisation Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), under house arrest for 10 days late Thursday night.

Ishaq was detained a day after 29 Shias were killed in Mastung in an attack claimed by the LeJ.

A police contingent has been deployed outside Ishaq’s house and people have been barred from visiting him, district police officer Sohail Chatta said while talking to The Express Tribune.

Government of Punjab has given orders for Ishaq’s house arrest, said District Coordination Officer Rahim Yar Khan, Ahmed Javed Qazi, while talking to The Express Tribune.

Ishaq had received his passport to perform Umrah a few days ago, sources said.

He was released on bail in July after nearly 14 years behind bars over his alleged role in numerous sectarian murders and the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.

Ishaq was acquitted in 34 of the 44 cases against him, involving the killing of 70 people, and granted bail in the remaining 10 cases, including the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.

However, sectarian tensions resurfaced following his release, prompted by his anti-Shia sermons across the country.

**According to an official document prepared by a department working under Punjab government, available with The Express Tribune, Ishaq vowed to continue to kill “the enemies of the Sahaba (Prophet Muhammad PBUH’s companions)” at a seminar on September 4.

“LeJ is not a terrorist outfit. It was set up to ensure proper respect for the companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH),” Ishaq reportedly said.

Earlier, on Sunday, members of Ishaq’s entourage clashed with the Shia community in Muzaffargarh district, resulting in at least two deaths and ten injuries.**

Ishaq had been flouting government’s orders by travelling across the province, since he is on an anti-terrorism watch list and is required to request permission before leaving the jurisdiction of his local police station.
