RAWALPINDI: A Rawalpindi anti-terrorist court on Thursday acquitted Malik Ishaq, chief of proscribed Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) militant group, in three cases relating to terrorism, DawnNews reported.

Judge Rana Masood Akhtar issued acquittal orders for Ishaq in the cases, saying the evidence against Ishaq was not sufficient for further proceedings.

Having faced charges relating to killing of more than 100 people, most of them Shia Muslims, and the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in March 2009, Ishaq has spent around 15 years in Pakistani jails.

He was initially a member of Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), a banned Sunni extremist group but later dissociated himself from it for his alleged ‘violent policies’ and formed his own outfit. The LJ was proscribed by the Pakistan government as a terror group soon after its inception in early 1990s.

After reaching an agreement with Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) chief Ahmed Ludhianvi, Ishaq joined as second-in-command of the former SSP in 2012.

Here we go. Will it amount to contempt of court if we say that we ALWAYS know what king of decisions will come in these kind of cases?

I am sure had Mumtaz Qadri not confessed to killing Salman Taseer in cold blood, he would have also been acquitted by now for want of ‘sufficient evidence’. In fact, even if he still gets out of prison for the same reason, it would be hardly surprising for me.

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

What is sufficient evidence? Like video of these guys bombing/killing someone? or a video of them admitting the crime? Even after that the insecure judges will say "the video seems doctored".

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

Amal, don’t pin too much hope on Mumtaz Qadri’s confession…courts will find some excuse to let him go free and he’ll join the group of Ghazis [fighters returning alive from a jihad] along with this guy!

what a travesty of justice! :hmmm:

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

May be Malik Ishaque proves himself a best candidate for PM Pakistan in future. Trend of the region says something to thinking minds :hmmm:

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

maybe the judge wants to live a few more years?

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

You are right. A video is doctored. Audio is forged. Circumstantial evidence is insufficient and forensic evidence is mala fide. God only knows when our courts will have enough and right evidence to sentence someone.

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

Is se to behtar hey ke chullo bhar paani meiN doob kar mar janeiN sarey judges.

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

Yeah why not. Ab ki baar, Malik sarkar

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

They are human beings. They know what fate awaits them if they sentence such criminals. See the news report even names the judge. Such trials should be conducted with judges/lawyers identities concealed.

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

its not the lawyers or judges. how do you convict someone when no witness is willing to turn up?

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

Malik ishaq should now sue the state for wrongly implicating him in terrorism cases.

on a side note these bigoted mullahs want shahadat for others children's but are willing to use what ever means (even lies) to avoid punishment. This in itself should be an eye opener for their followers

Re: Malik Ishaq acquitted in three cases over insufficient evidence

These followers have neither eyes to see nor ears to listen. They are under a nauseous spell of impassiveness. I doubt if anything can awake them.
