Is it weird if my baby girl has a male middle name? I want her middle name to be my husband’s first name. I didn’t even think twice about it because I grew up in the Middle East and I’m kind of used to a girl’s first name followed by the father’s name and then the family name/last name. And there are women like Soha Ali Khan and their name doesn’t sound strange.
Anyway my inlaws were asking about middle names and I said it will be Ali and they said it’s weird and it should be Fatima/Batool/Zehra or something like that.
These days people use only first name and surname as last name. Many use father's first name as middle name while some use mother's example Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Same is for girls.

Opinions?
Ali Khan is a full last name in itself, I've seen others spell it as Alykhan. As for using your husband's first name as your daughter's middle name - entirely a personal choice, but your daughter already has her father's last name as her own, what's the reason for adding his first name as well, preference?

I just has a really nice ring to it and I love my husband's first name too. My first name and/or maiden name just don't have a nice ring to it when I pair it with the baby's first name
thats what we've done for both my girls. it was my husbands idea ... he comes from a family of middle namers :D. I dont have a middle name but I had no objection to it. there was no particular reasoning either other then it had a nice ring to it.
in all honesty however, i dont really see the purpose of having a middle name... its only ever used on paperwork.
My middle name is Fatima..if I had had a daughter I probably would have wanted that as her middle same as well, but I can totally see my husband wanting his first name as her middle name so yea, it's not weird..personal preference I would say.
My siblings and I all have my dad's first name as our middle name (boys and girls alike and US born). I did the same for my daughters- they have their dad's name as their middle name and family name as last name.
My kids surname is their fathers first name. As I wanted them to carry their fathers name. As for middle names, they really are just for paperwork and living in the west it's hard enough for people to get our names right without adding another to add to the problem. I didn't even bother to change my surname when I got married.
As for the middle name being male, then I would just assume that it's part of the surname. People do have double barrel surnames ESP when they don't want to lose their maiden name.
We don't do it in my family but I've heard of it before. It's common, don't worry about that part to much. My middle name is Fatima and that's what my family thinks I should use as my baby's middle name too but we rather use my husbands moms name, even though it doesn't necessarily go that that well but that's what we prefer. Everyone else thinks it should be Fatima, Zehra, Batool, Kulsoom as well lol. Think about it, ultimately chose what you and your hubby prefer. :)Everybody likes our gesture but it's a new idea that will take time to settle in.
