Inspired from a discussion in ‘what is a girl to do?’ about breast implants, how do you feel about male circumcision?
Apparently, it is only preferred (sunnah. I quickly looked it up and found that many people do believe that), not mandatory. Did you get your son(s) circumcised or would you, knowing that it is only preferred and is not mandatory, exactly like men keeping beards?
With today’s awareness of hygiene and cleanliness, that can be taught to a child (like a girl is taught to stay clean), is it necessary? - If possible, please keep the necessity aspect of the discussion outside the realm of religion.

It is more of a necessity than preference.
Religious reasons aside, male circumcision actually helps people.
Males not being circumcised have more problems and absolutely no proven benefit.
Again I hear that changing any part of your body is haram but then isn't circumcision changing the body? Then I hear that people get circumcised because it's easier to stay healthy and clean that way but I'm thinking that would Allah make us with a circumcised penis instead of getting circumcised later on in life, it saves time and lives. But circumcision is very dangerous, just a few days ago many people in South Africa died due to it.
The answer depends how much can be written or explained.
To a limited extent and not to make life of mods busier than what it is,
..........just think of extra skin and its fold being a source of nuisance and requiring more hygiene than if taken away.
Read about 'smegma', infection and cancer of the male area.
Besides from pleasure point of view for both, the man is better off circumcised. Just get the hint.
I don't think the mods would mind a conversation that stays sophisticated and is not intended to be vulgar.
If my reasons were to uncover the pros and cons, I wouldn't be asking here. Point of this thread is to get opinions and the reasons why people hold those opinions - and probably get an intelligent discussion going.
I can see what you mean by nuisance because of the "extra" skin (that every man is born with). But as far as I know, it seems to be widely acknowledged that the skin works in favour of the pleasure of both the people involved.

Do you believe it is necessary for whatever reasons?

I am not sure who thinks changing your body for a reason haram.
Yes and shaving your neck by razor too if not careful. There are so many other necessary surgeries which are way more dangerous than circumcision.
Male circumcision is a necessity. Removal of skin brings more pleasure for both partners....
It is not dangerous.... heals in few days.. Best to perform on the baby.....
Bleeding any part of body is not Haram. Our prophet (PBUH) used to make cut on other part of body to let little blood drain.....it is a method of curing......still used in Muslim part of the world. In Ahadis, it is also to cure black magic done on you......the Satan escapes from the area if it resides in ur body..........

You think so?
Extra skin does not give extra pleasure as far as I know. One can imagine no 'extra' benefit for woman at all.
I asked you to read about issues with extra skin... infection, possibility of cancer and unhygienic issues. No comments on those? Oh one more.... read about phimosis/paraphimosis............painful for men.
Plus during sex, if the woman is a bit dry, ...ouch for both!
Instead of getting into all these discussions, and letting aside religion, It is necessary for a man to be circumcised. in the begining few days it is painful no doubt but later effects are better.
well answered by diwana. I second every single word he said.
The circumcision has been recommended by most of the Doctors in order to prove lots of problems which a man can have. Moreover, its really nuisance during the intercourse for both.

Those include preventing recurring infections of the head of the p***, avoiding obstruction of urine flow that can result when the prepuce's opening narrows, and preventing a tight prepuce from retracting over the glans. Also, circumcision may reduce the incidence of penile cancer (a very rare condition).
Even barring these considerations, infections, including urinary tract infections in infants, are less common in a circumcised p*. That's because a circumcised p is easier to keep clean. (By pulling back the uncircumcised foreskin and cleaning carefully, a man can reduce the formation of smegma, a cottage cheese-like substance that can lead to a foul odor and infection).
Finally, circumcision might have a small protective effect against AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), "some research suggests that circumcised men may be at a reduced risk for developing syphilis and HIV infections." Some scientists blame any increased risk in uncircumcised p*** on increased mucosal cells that can allow infection to enter more easily. What's more, microorganisms can flourish in a warm, moist area under the foreskin.
