why do you care if something is palatable to goras or not? Do you mean something they can pronounce without having a stroke or giving the kid nightmares? In that case here are a few:
Boys: Raj, Ram, Rahim, Kumar, Hiren, Anand, Abd{e/u}l..
Girls: Mona, Monica, Geeta, Sonia, ....
Just keep it to max 2 syllables avoiding toungue twisting combos.

and to those of you who are or will be complaining or wondering...its OK to name your child a GOOD name that will fit in with the society/culture which you are living in. It isnt a good thing to make your child stand out like a sore thumb - whether its clothing, name, behavior, whatever. If its such a big issue that your child WILL stand out to this degree then you should move and live where the child will fit in to at least some degree. Otherwise, you're risking making your child an outcast which makes the child prone to all kinds of nasty experiences - needlessly.

Why should a different name lead to nasty experiences? When you live in an intolerant, narrow minded society where miniscule issues like a name can cause a child aggravated unhappiness, you should be worried about where you're living.

Ms Cat, I've said this before so I'm sorry to be repetitive...but children are inherently mean and attack those who are different. If you send a child with a name like say Abdullah into a classroom full of Johns, Sams, Toms and Harrys then guess what...your little boy will be tortured. Thats a sad fact of life. Just like I would not send my child to school in a suit and tie if the other kids are wearing t-shirts and jeans, I would not name my child a name that would make them a target of mean-ness. If it were THAT important to me, I'd move my family somewhere else.....but then, you know you just have to seek to find ... there ARE names that can and do fit in, lovely names to be proud of, no matter where you live. There should be no shame in looking for a lovely name to fit in with lifestyle, culture, background and - yes - fitting in to the society that you choose to live in.

^ there's no shame in that whatsoever. I just dont know why a kid called anything other than the conventional anglicised names should be picked on. Highly odd - I dont think it happens in any other part of the world - like other cosmopolitan countries like the UK or SA. If we all try to immitate each other in the name of 'assimilation' and peaceful cohabitation it's a damn intolerant and robotic society we're living in.

Katie Couric did a story on a kid (7 or 8) whose name is Osama. That poor child didn't want to go to school anymore. His parents should change his name to Ozzy or Osmand.
