Malcolm-X: What can we learn from him today?

Yesterday marked another assassination anniversary of the great leader of civil rights, especially for African Americans. But if you notice today’s environment of hatred and non-tolerance towards minorities, his words seem to be right on money.

Just wonder how the world would have changed had he and Martin Luther King lived longer.

dont we need some visionary leaders like him now?

Thanks for sharing!

Here are some of my favourite quotes by him:

“Usually when people are sad, they don't do anything. They just cry over their condition. But when they get angry, they bring about a change.”

“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”

“So early in my life, I had learned that if you want something, you had better make some noise.”

“Hence I have no mercy or compassion in me for a society that will crush people, and then penalize them for not being able to stand up under the weight.”

“The only way we'll get freedom for ourselves is to identify ourselves with every oppressed people in the world. We are blood brothers to the people of Brazil, Venezuela, Haiti, Cuba -- yes Cuba too.”

I've always wanted to visit his mosque in NY too, I wonder how it is. These guys will always be an inspiration for young activists. It's never easy, but always worth it. :)

Re: Malcolm-X: What can we learn from him today?

Thanks for sharing such amazing quotes. Yes the whole area, MalcomX blvd in Harlem and his masjid in the corner are all historic.

Now as I was reading he was assassinated after he left ‘Nation of Islam’ and visited Mecca and most likely the assassin was one of his own ex-“brother”. How sad!

NYtimes did a review of it and you must look at this link, its just feels so real:

Re: Malcolm-X: What can we learn from him today?

Yea, I'll see if I can come down this summer. Never been to Harlem before but I'm really intrigued by the history.

The video was so good. It did feel really real. His assassination was sad. His whole evolution as a person is really interesting along with his transforming beliefs.

This also got me thinking about how the struggle never ends. There's always going to be people doing injustice no matter what place and what time period you are in. There's always going to be the choice to stick by your values and rebel against the norm or to stay put and assimilate into a fake world.
