Jeepers, and to think I was being invited by an old college friend to visit Malawi next year.
Malawi Fights Rumors of Vampire Attacks
Horrifying stories of vampires attacking villagers in the dead of night and sucking their blood have forced Malawi’s government to wage a massive public relations blitz to calm the public. The rumors began three weeks ago in the south of this impoverished nation in southeast Africa and have intensified in recent days. Last week, frightened villagers beat to death a man suspected of being a vampire, attacked and nearly lynched three visiting priests and destroyed an aid group’s encampment they feared was the vampires’ headquarters. President Bakili Muluzi called the rumors unfounded and malicious, and accused unnamed opposition groups of trying to undermine him by saying his government gave aid agencies human blood in exchange for food aid. “No government can go about sucking (the) blood of its own people,” Muluzi said Sunday. “That’s thuggery.” The rumors were hurting efforts to pull Malawi out of its severe hunger crisis, Muluzi said, since many families were too scared to leave their villages to tend their fields. A series of statements from the police, Information Ministry, Home Affairs Ministry and Internal Security Ministry have condemned the rumors and top government officials have journeyed to the districts of Thyolo, Mulanje, Chiradzul and Blantyre trying to quash the stories. “There is no truth in this. There is no such thing as blood suckers anywhere in Malawi,” said Joseph Aironi, the police inspector general.
Probably just started by a psychopath on the loose over there... he probably had a hankerting for his victims' blood, and then rumour spread like wildfire,

Well vampires are known to hyptonise their victims and control their minds. But how is that possible with Seminole?

What is up with your comments regarding Africans? If you have not yet gone on Hajj and you plan to do so in the future, before praying will you make sure that you are not standing next to a black man? When you go to a masjid to offer salah, do you look at the colour of the person next to you to make sure he's lighter than you? What about the Imam - does he have to be a particular skin colour before you will allow yourself to listen to his talk?
AstagfurAllah, I'm just kidding man. I have nothing against any color. I just light to lighten things up a little, and well they are a very easy target.....delete the post if you want yaar. :)
Sorry, Mo, the last thing i want is to cause hurt to anyone on Gushup. It just hurts me when i read anything negative about Africans based upon their skin colour.
It’s not that i am trying to single you out personally in the WA and Religion Forums…i had a very good (Muslim) friend who was from Nigeria, bahaut naik banda tha. He was Masha’Allah a very gentle, kind, generous person. So when i hear something against Africans from ANYone, it’s as though it’s against me and it hurts me personally.
In my humble opinion, there are numerous ways to “lighten things up” without resorting to continually insulting a group of people. What if there was a discussion in a thread regarding Israel, and a Jewish Guppy decided he wanted to lighten things up by mocking Muslims? Wouldn’t you and i be hurt? There are plenty of stereotypes regarding Pakistanis (we’re all smelly, stink of curry, etc.) - those would hurt badly.
Additionally, we do have atleast two Guppies who reside in South Africa - what if they were to read your comments. Manifestly i understand that you mean it as a joke, but then if those kinds of jokes are permissible, then we should be able to always accept being at the receiving end of Muslim and Pakistani stereotypes as well (terrorists, fanatics, closed-minded, oppressive, wife beaters, etc.). It’s the same thing for Africans. They are no more of an easy target to pick at than we are. And if we dish stereotypes out to others, then we should be prepared to receive them as well.
The LAST reason i joined Gupshup was to hurt anyone and i apologize in advance if anything in the above offended you. TRULY not my intention. When i think of the emphasis in Islam upon equality, and compare it to what i find here, it just truly hurts me - and makes me wonder what sort of an image to nonMuslims are we putting forth of Islam and Muslims.
