Malala is nice girl, but living in the UK, she is as much a symbol of hope to Pakistanis, as Altaf Hussain is to Karachi. The govt sent her abroad because it scored political points for them. Otherwise, Malala’s treatment was very much possible in Pakistan. As a matter of fact, the most difficult part of her treatment (surgery) had already been completed in Pakistan before she was sent abroad. I never quite understood the purpose of flying her out after she was out of danger.

As for security, the govt has thousands of police wallahs at their disposal, and they could have spared a few of those to provide security to her. Symbols of hope are people like Mukhtaran Mai, who, despite political and feudal pressure, lives on respectably, continues to run her school despite threats, and lives in Pakistan…otherwise, we all know how many opportunities she has had to leave Pakistan.

A lot of people are affected by terrorism and crime on a daily basis, and in far worse ways than Malala. That does not demean Malala’s injury, but the point is, that instead of spending millions of dollars on a single girl, whose treatment could have been done in Pakistan for a fraction of the cost, it would be more prudent to spend those millions on providing even the most basic medical care to a larger segment of the public in Pakistan. And anyway, my point was about granting her father a job he clearly did not deserve. People spend their entire lives working hard to be eligible for foreign service.

It is a sad fact of life that people tend to forget the trauma suffered for a cause. It is very easy to attribute motives and question things. It is difficult to be in their shoes. There might be everyday heroes but the Taliban chose to target Malala. That itself shows how popular she was and the kind of impact that she was making.
Unless somebody is very qualified and knows about the medical circumstances, one cannot judge if it was really required to send her to London. I assume you do and know for a fact that it was not required to send her to London. There was this every possibility that Taliban would attack her again. It shows the world that the government was concerned and was doing everything required to protect her.
Also for her father accepting the job. Who are we to judge if he really deserved it or now. He was able to channelize the energy of the entire nation towards a worthy cause which many people would not be able to do working for their entire lives.
