Re: Malala Yousufzai attacked
Malala has 70% ‘survival chance’
PESHAWAR: The 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai, shot in the head by the Taliban, has improved but remains in intensive care with a 70 per cent chance of survival, doctors said on Thursday as they canvas expert advice abroad.
Malala was airlifted to the country’s top military hospital for specialist treatment, officials said.
One of her doctors, Mumtaz Khan, said: “At the moment her condition is better. She has been put on a ventilator for two days. The bullet has affected some part of the brain, but there is a 70 per cent chance that she will survive.”
A husband-and-wife team of two British doctors who were attending a seminar in Pakistan at the time of the attack on Thursday joined local surgeons in treating Malala.
**Mehmoodul Hasan, one of Malala’s relatives, said the family had been told her condition had improved but that doctors were sending her medical reports abroad.
“They are checking if better facilities are available in the UK or Dubai or any other country, then they will decide about sending her abroad, otherwise they will treat her here,” said Hasan.**
Malala was unconscious and that the next 24 hours would be crucial.
*Authorities had identified her attackers, said KP governor Masood Kausar. *
“The security agencies are closely working with each other and they have a lot of information about the perpetrators. We hope our security agencies will soon capture them and bring to justice,” he said.
