^ If philanthropy were to be the criteria for the Nobel Peace Prize this time around, a very strong case could be made for people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. Through their foundations, they have given billions and billions of their own dollars in aid and most of that aid is going to developing countries so it’s not even people in their own native countries who are benefiting the most from the philanthropy. Then in the developing world, there are similar charities as Edhi Foundation in Africa and elsewhere, and a case could also be made for giving the Nobel Peace Prize to people like Azim Premji and others like him.

There are therefore lots of contenders including many “left leaning” personalities who would be equally eligible for the award if it were to be given on the basis of philanthropic endeavors. Besides, not that it matters but most of the people, especially in recent years, who have got the award are ‘left leaning’ personalities so if Edhi sahab were not to get it, then that’s not because of any conspiracy against him.

The reason Malala Yousufzai might win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2013 is because the momentum is on her side, because she stood up against the savage animals i.e. taliban who ARE the “evil reincarnate.” Because she spoke for girls’ basic rights and for universal education when schools like hers were shut down by those barbarians. Because she exemplified yearning for peace and normalcy, and in standing up to the savages who wanted to confine girls like her to the four walls of their houses, Malala showed courage and bravery that has rarely been witnessed in a person so young.

So if Malala Yousufzai wins the Nobel Prize, it will be up to Pakistanis to celebrate her achievement or to malign her. They have done the latter to the ONLY other Pakistani Nobel Laureate, Professor Abdus Salam because he belonged to a minority group. They disparaged him, ostracized him and even desecrated his grave after he died. But if Pakistanis do the same to Malala as they did to Professor Salam then, once again, they will be doing that to their own detriment.

very well said…edhi is great but every country has heroes like edhi but that is not the point… the point iss that why do we Pakistanis need to bring “this vs that” scenario in everything?

can you even imagine Bangladeshis doing that for Mohammad Younis? i mean if malala is being a source of honor for your god-damn country (which has nothing good to produce for sometime now), be proud of her instead of throwing in this vs that, what-if, why-her type scenarios?

i mean why would you do that? when the whole world blames you for epicenter of terrorism, you have a problem..and when the world wants to give you some honor, you again have problem? izzat rass nahieen atiee pakistanyo ko

go to any social forum and you will be shocked, perplexed, and shaken by the amount of hatred that educated Pakistanis are showing towards malala with all kind of conspiracy theories…
