Makki Ki Roti

So I bought that Mexican corn flour from the grocery store.
Now what do I do with it to get Makki ki roti?
Nice and soft kind.

Do I mix some regular atta?

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Add spelt or canadian white flour to keep the roti intact.

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Sorry, not related to your question , but my cousin just got his "rotimatic" machine delivered which he ordered 3 yrs back. Its smooth. Nice work but meh, I'm not gona spend 1000 buck on that :)

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Anyway contrary to the popular belief that it is not a traditional roti as corn was introduced in India only a few hundred years ago. The settlers in the new world considered corn as an inferior food and feared that they would turn Red Indian if they eat it.

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Use to add v little salt and little hot milk and mix well

Roll it out right away and cook it in butter

Serve hot with dahi or saag

Punjabi cuisine

Can add hot water/coconut milk instead

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Makki ki roti is non indigenous but bajray ki roti is indigenous.

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Gawdd why r u bringing up science in food related stuff just let us eat or at least imagine to eat all the yummmy stuffffff

Re: Makki Ki Roti

It is just for information. By the way I have eaten both the roties and bajray ki roti is more delicious and nutritious than makki ki roti. I am not sure about corn but its oil is inflammatory and not good for people with arthritis.

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Bajray ki roti is made out of millet flour? Will look into it!

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Yes indeed! You can mix rye flour as well and some white flour (spelt) to make it intact. Rye is the most healthiest grain.

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Cornbread is like heaven exploding in your mouth, give that a try. Kids can take it for lunch also.

Re: Makki Ki Roti

I will stick to avoiding all grain flours for now.

Re: Makki Ki Roti

Why? that could lead to nutrient deficiencies.

Re: Makki Ki Roti

How so?

Re: Makki Ki Roti

The food guide is prepared using the best available science
deviating from it will lead to nutrient deficiencies. It recommends 6/7 servings of grains

Healthiest grains to choose
According to The World’s Healthiest Foods, the following are the healthiest grains, meaning they are nutrient dense, familiar, readily available and taste good. These grains help in all the ways listed above and in other ways mentioned below.

  1. Whole Rye. This cereal grain has more nutrients per 100-calorie serving than any other whole grain. It has four times more fiber than whole wheat and 50 percent of the daily recommended amount of iron. It also promotes weight loss, helps prevent gallstones and prevents breast cancer.
  2. Quinoa. OK, this is actually a seed, not a grain, but it’s widely considered a grain, so we’ll include here. It is super nutritious, especially for vegans because it is a complete protein. It is also high in vitamin E and calcium and low in fat. Quinoa is gluten free.
  3. Oats. Oats help enhance immune response to infection and stabilize blood sugar. Oats are gluten free.
  4. Barley. Barley is a great source of fiber and selenium and a good source of phosphorous, copper and manganese. It also helps prevent gallstones.
  5. Millet. This grain is a good source of manganese, phosphorus and magnesium. It helps with the development and repair of body tissue, helps prevent gallstones and protects against breast cancer.
  6. Brown Rice. Brown rice is an excellent source of manganese and a good source of selenium and magnesium. It’s also high in fiber, rich in antioxidants and helps stabilize blood sugar.
  7. Buckwheat. Also not a grain; it’s technically a fruit seed, but it is used like one in cooking, and it’s a good substitute for grains because it is gluten free. Buckwheat helps control blood sugar and helps prevent gallstones.
  8. Spelt. This grain does not seem to cause sensitivities in many people who are intolerant of wheat. It is an excellent source of manganese and a good source of protein, copper and zinc.
  9. Corn. Corn is high in antioxidants and is a good source of fiber. It also helps with blood sugar control.
  10. Whole wheat. This popular grain is rich in B vitamins and vitamin E. It’s also low in fat.

Re: Makki Ki Roti

I eat grains like steel cut oats and rice (all types). I will slowly try to add other grains, just not in flour form.

I guess i already eat corn in flour form.
