Re: Making Pakistan a better place to live..
There are some great ideas here, but before anything can change on a national level, the mentality of people needs to change. There needs to be a shift from the "my needs first" to "this is not beneficial to society".
For example, most Americans or Canadians would never throw trash on the ground, because it's just not a nice thing to do and it makes things dirty. There is a more general level of consciousness towards obeying the laws. In Pakistan, I have noticed that many people will do whatever they can get away with. People throw trash on the ground because they don't care if the ground looks dirty, and don't think it's their responsibility to keep it clean. There is also an attitude of "it's not my responsibility" or a spirit of volunteerism. These attitudes have to change on a personal level before anything else can be done.
Re: Making Pakistan a better place to live..
I agree with all your suggestions
on a smaller level pertaining to looks of cities...There should be a uniformed look to their ads on the top of the shops...again regulations come into place for a uniformed look.
EDucation Education Education
More oppurtunitied to the talented youths that have all the talents but yet the opportunities r unavailable to them.
Re: Making Pakistan a better place to live..
I agee with amana and would like to add more..
excuses need to stop, change begins with home, and change at home begins with oneself.
If people will complain about corruption and ghunda agrdee and all, but then think that laws dont apply to them, how are they not part of this.
If the amount of talk that people have on enformcement of laws was instead replaced 50% with actually doing what is right, then things would change considerably.
wasteful spending happens in every country, just look at the waste at US govt spending, but does it stop people from paying taxes? sure ppl in US may cheat on their taxes too, but its the magnitude in Pakistan that shocks me.
I mean if you dont like the govt and dont like what its doing, and thus top paying taxes, then by that view 50% of americans would not be paying taxes this year. Then we complain about institutions and programs not being funced properly. This is just an example. As a nation we complain about laws not being enforced, but look at the traffic, majority does not follow traffic laws. why is that?
I think that faith, unity and discipline all has major issues in the nation. (sorry Quaid e azam) ...also add to it over abundance of apathy.
quaid e azam said kaam kaam aur bas kaam, (kaam= work/effort) our nation added an 'L" to it and it became Kalam Kalam aur bas kalam (kalam= talk)
I am not arguing with all the other thigs mentioned, better infrastructure, medical, educational and social services, law enforcement etc etc. Not at all. I am saying that they will do their part, but we need to go to even more basic changes, and that needs to start from home.
Re: Making Pakistan a better place to live..
Garbage should be put in the garbage can rather than on the streets!!!
Re: Making Pakistan a better place to live..
A new suggestion in my idea bank: change the government system from democracy to monarchy (or single-entity rule).. democracy is in my opinion half the reason why Pakistan is what it is right now (those crazy backstage politics and stuff .. which is only further exploited by the Musharraf media)
Re: Making Pakistan a better place to live..
Monarchy will be terrible for Pakistan, it works in Arab countries because they identify themselves more as "Arabs" so there is a unification factor in it. In Pakistan, there are so many factions that one family rule will only result in more violence and uproar.
Democracy will work in Pakistan, it is just that the leaders of most of the parties need to let go of their ego and encourage young blood to take the lead because most Pakistanis do not hate the political parites as much as they hate their leaders and fear them ruling the country.
There is talent, potential and vision in Pakistan just like any other country, but in those countries people have some sort of input and voice unlike Pakistan that is why the frustation is very easy to observe.
Re: Making Pakistan a better place to live..
Like others have already mentioned, enforcement of the law would be the first step in the right direction.
