^ K thanks for the image..really helps!
I dont’ think peel potatoes are good in salan/raita ![]()
I’ve seen people add potatoes in raita. My mom does it and it’s quite lovely.
You boil the potatoes, peel the skin, then dice them. You also dice some tomatoes. Finely chop up some onions. (You can even add boiled chick peas). Mix the yogurt until smooth, add the above ingredients to yogurt. Season with salt, chili powder, and garam masala. And you’re done. You can eat this as a chaat. Or serve it as a raita. If you want the raita to be a bit “lighter”…you can omit the chickpeas and only keep the other ingredients. ![]()

THE EASIEST LIFE TIP IN THE WORLD:
Just use garlic powder and ginger powder. No mess, no fuss, no spitting, no freezer space. Store in a jar and use whenever. It really doesn't taste much different to fresh when used in cooking. I add it to anything, even yogurt dips and salad dressings. Very good.
Re: Making My Life Easier
The best peeler I have has got a slightly serrated edge, like a tomato knife. It peels absolutely anything, even tomatoes.
Ginger - chop the knobbly bits RIGHT OFF with knife, then peel the rest, its very easy.
They do taste good in raita and veggie dishes…red potatoes especially are meant to be used with peel on because the skin is so thin and tastes good too. Russet potatoes have thicker skin and they’re also not very clean so it’s better to just peel them unless you clean them with a brush.
lol…it’s karma..jese ko tesa ![]()
btw, it happens to me too sometimes so I’m planning to buy a microplane zester/grater. I have seen chefs use it a lot in TV shows.

we have this chopper/dicer which im so in love with. i used to hate having garlic/ginger in food because it would come in my mouth and it would be so annoying but now i make sure my parents cook the foods with ginger/garlic chopped in this…the one that we have sort of makes it like the paste that you get it from the store so i am good to go ![]()
Re: Making My Life Easier
^ chorni is that the one thats advertised by the SHAMWOW guy? ![]()
thats just a zester for lime zest etc. you would still have to peel the garlic and ginger before u can zest it with that.
the best thing to do is to get a good quality peeler for potatoes and get peeled ginger, its gonna cost u extra but its either that or going thru the hassle of peeling the nooks and crannies of it.
Re: Making My Life Easier
^I already have 'garlic press' gadget for garlic...It's cool, I don't even have to peel the garlic! I think zester will work well for ginger. Peeling ginger isn't a problem for me.
Re: Making My Life Easier
^oh cool is that the thing where u put a clove of garlic in and u press the handles together? i hate peeling ginger.
Re: Making My Life Easier
^yup, you just press the handles and get a crushed garlic. It's very useful!
Re: Making My Life Easier
how big are the chunks of crushed garlic?!?! do you see them in salan or not?
i don’t know the dude’s name but yes i do usually see these advertised…the crushed chunks are very small especially cuz i keep going at it (the chopper)
me’s happy with it though :jano:
